I successfully jailbreaked to 2.2 with the pwnaged tool.

However, I cannot find Cydia and Installer. Prior to upgrading I had the icons hidden using poof.

Can anybody help me get them back?

I am experience the same and for shure i am no noob. I had cydia and installer hidden by sbsettings. I tried to use a firmware preloaded with openssh and mobilefinder, after flashing the iphone does not even show them, ssh refuses to connect to the iphone. I am on a dead end, I do not want to lose my sms and so on.

Anyone got an other/better idea?

I found a workaround. Use this tool provided on the website http://supercrazyawesome.com/ to extract all your settings and information you want to keep such as SMS and CallHistory. Then setup your iphone as a new iPhone and later copy your information back to your device using sftp. You should delete the sbsettings.plist before that, just to be shure installer and cydia wont be hidden anymore.

Easier method than above is just go to Settings > General > Reset, and Reset Home Screen Layout.
