But, as the SL is going to use the power of GPU as CPU, and Intel is going to ship these multicore GPUs in 2009, maybe they wil release SL in late 2009. But the new Intel technology is going to be a breakethrough and I think the OS XI should be preparded for all their power. But we still have to wait for 4 more versions until XI. |

There is no reason that Snow Leopard couldn't be optimized for the Sandy Bridge Micro-Architecture or the Advanced Vector Extension set or the later planed Fused Multiply-Add set as the specifications for both have been published for some time.
One of the key enhancements to Snow Leopard is Grand Central, or the ability to handle many CPU and GPU cores. While it would not be trivial to add support for these additional instruction sets, it is very possible as Apple has already proven that it is capable of doing. I do completely agree with your assertion that Snow Leopard will likely be released mid-late 2009, however given the stage of development that has been shown in the single Development Seed, very few are really expecting a MacWorld '09 Release. Additionally, with the level of changes that are taking place at the core of the OS, requiring dramatic changes to KEXTs and the like for many applications and the dependency on getting OpenCL fully working and supported in applications prior to the release, a release at WWDC'09 Also seems pretty unrealistic. If anything, I would personally expect us to see something within a month of WWDC'09 to October '09. ~Adrian |

There is no official release date yet, it is for the best for Apple to sell more O/S 10.5 today, instead of having clients wait for the new O/S and lose the sale.
I was waiting to get 10.5 since December, but I was working in a country where they use PC 99%, so buying Mac's O/S was kind of impossible and now that I am back home, I am gonna spend $150, because I believe the new one will be released by the end of the year. |

There really is no dispute that it is in apple's best interests to make more money right now, and that is one of those big reasons why they don't give out dates very far in advance, and new products just show up in stores one day.
However, Snow Leopard still has a very long way to go before it is released. It took quite some time to get Leopard from It's first WWDC preview to it's release. It seems surprising that people seem to think that it's going to be out by Christmas when the majority of Apple's Developer Connection members haven't even been able to obtain a copy through legitimate channels. People just need to sit back, calm down and be happy with what they have and thank god that it's not Vista. ~Adrian |
