[Help] Have 2.0.2 jailbroken But Want Update To 3.1.2

Hello,

Ok...its been awhile since I have been here so if I say a certain term or etc that is old or out-dated please understand.

The phone I have is already jailbroken and the specs are:

3G Iphone
2.0.2 Version (5C1)
Using a TurboSim on Tmobile
Also Using a PC

I have wanted to update the phone but for a year now my son has been in and out of the hospital. He is starting to do better and thought I would take the time to try and catch up to the rest of my fellow iphone users.

My problem...there is so much info out there and I dont know which tuts to follow. Is there anything I need to know before I do this? Will I lose anything...meaning, will I lose contacts, photos, apps and etc. If yes, is there a way to back this all up.

I know alot of people hate when people just come in here asking for help without doing their own homework....but I have searched all over and I cannot find the answers to my concerns. Please if you can take the time to help me out.

wow...really no one here can help me out? Look I know I might be asking for alot of info...but as I explained, when I first did the JB and etc I did all the homework on my own...but alot of time had past and there is too much info out there and searched all over.

I tried to do my own homework but came up empty handed....that is why Im here asking for some expert help, please. There is so many different tuts, and yellowsnow this and redsnow that...I dont know what are the right steps to take.

Please if anyone can...take the time to try and help me. If there is any other info you might need to know about the phone I have just let me know.

Wow you have been away for a long time... Hope your sons better now..

Anyways, upgrading your iphone to 3.1.2 will be best for you.

1st download custom firmware **Mod Edit: No custom FW links here**

2nd Open itunes hold shift then click on restore and choose your custom firmware which you have just downloaded.

3rd After restore is complete you will see an icon calledCydia. Click on it and you will be asked to upgrade complete updates.

4th Go back into Cydia click manage then sources and add http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com (that last “0” in ultrasn0w is a zero!)

5th Install Ultrasn0w

6th throw away your turbo sim

7th before updating to a new firmware always ask if it is safe to do so...

superman that wrong.

first he need to offically update the phone to 3.0 ( not 3.1)
this is requared because you need to update the baseband to 4.26.08 in order to unlock with ultrasn0w and in order to be able to work with the 3.0 fw.

as i recall older baseband dont work with fw 3.0+

Supermand and gg thanks for taking out the time to help me out. Yes I know I have been gone for a while...it was alittle confusing then to JB but now there is soooo much info out there. As for my son thanks for asking, as I mentioned since he has been out of the hospital I thought it best to catch up...but yesterday he had to go back...he is ok, but I guess we are not done with the hospital visits.

So I will try and do what I can to this phone with little time that I have....I dont want to rush this and brick my phone...so if you guys dont mind please try and explain in steps.

Also, please dont feel like Im one of those newbies that just come here asking for the answer without doing my own homework....I spent about 2 weeks searching and reading tuts....I found information but alot of it says do this but not that....do that but not this....you guys would be doing me a huge favor by helping.

GG....you mention I need to update to 3.0...where do I find this FW and once I get it...do I pick up and follow superman directions.

Also I noticed with Cydia that some apps dont work with certain FW....so before I update to 3.x.....can you guys tell me which FW do you feel works with most of the apps on cydia.

This is what i would do!

1st remove that piggy sim and just insert you tmobile or whatever sim.

2. Restore iphone with Fw 3.0.1 Found here http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite....0_Restore.ipsw

3. run redsn0w 0.8 download from dev team website or you might find it here on the forum.

4.after that if you really really want to go to 3.1.2 than you will need a mac to do a costume Fw without the baseband update.
you could find this Costume update on torrent websites but if it was me i would just stick with 3.0 right now.

than just install ultrasnow as described by superman and you should be good to go.
remember back up everything you have saved on the phone.

GG....thanks again for taking the time. What would be the best way to backup my phone....do I connect it to itunes and right click it then select back up or some other way?

Also I read somewhere that once I jailbreak and etc and then sync everything back...that I should do new user....if this is true...how do I do this...just connect to itunes and then what?

Well This is how i allways did it and i think its the best way.

Contacts.
plug in iphone! open itunes,click on info tab and check sync contacts with whatever outlook or windows contact.
Something should pop out! click merge contacts.

Photos
Once iphone is pluged into computer something should pop out autoplay click on import pic.

Applications
Righ click on devices wile on itunes and click transfer purchases.

thats all i back up since everything else i keep a copy on my computer.

yes you should set up the phone as new

than go to info again check sync contacts with whatever outlook or windows contacs than scroll to the bottom and check replace contacts on this iphone.

Sync pic with iphone

also sync apps with iphone and there you do .

hope it helps and im sure i have misspelled a lot of words
sorry for that.

How to set up as new

Once the phone is restored and jailbroken itunes will ask you to set up as new or from back up select new!

by the way i was checking the link i send you for the fw
seems that for some reason it saves as zip make sure you change that into ipsw.

and dont forget to click shift restore in itunes when you are ready to restore to 3.0.1

something else you need fw 3.0 as well when you jailbreak because when redsnow ask you for the fw you should direct it to the 3.0 for the jailbreak not 3.0.1
