Three days ago I bought an iphone 3G from someone. when I was trying it at the guys house, he was deleting all his contacts by hand - I stopped him and just started an iphone reset. However, I got bored during the process and I decided to reset the iphone while it was erasing. Unfortunately, it failed to boot. I said to myself, no problem, i'm jailbreaking it anyways, then I bought it.

Once I got home, I installed iphone os 3.1 through PwnTool. When everything was done, I installed ultrasn0w, not knowing that the baseband was in fact 05.11.07 (i tought the pwning process would have disabled the baseband update - or it was already upgraded??), so the unlocking failed and my Fido simcard gave me one bar of signal and no network name. I said to myself, no problem, the phone is locked to Rogers, so i'm simply gonna switch carriers. I got to the Rogers store and they tried two sim cards in it - same problem: I get one bar of signal, no network name and no communication at all.

I tried restoring pwned 3.1 and it still failed. My final solution would be to restore the original iphone OS. However, my fear is to not be able to jailbreak it anymore after this, or to update the baseband to a version that is even more impossible to unlock. Do you guys have any idea on this problem? tl;dr: one bar signal and no carrier name even with the unit carrier (Rogers), os 3.1, any solution?

I have the same problem, I had an Iphone 3G version 3.1 which I downgraded to a jailbroken 3.0.

The bootroom is still 05.09 and the bootloader is still 05.11.17

Trying this on a rogers phone ...

05.11.17 is modem firmware and it can't be unlocked at this time

The problem is I don't need an unlock to make it work on Rogers, but it still doesn't works.

I understand that you have used 3.1 pwned custom firmware, make sure that the custom is Nonactivated ipsw. If you use orginal sim card you should use Nonactivated and then let itunes activate it.

All custom will not show network name , the only way to get network name is to restore to the orginal ipsw and then restore again using custom firmware.

I'm gonna try this when I get home. If I don't care about the network name, can I just use a non-activated Pwned IPSW and reflash my iPhone with it or do I need to flash an Apple IPSW beforehand? Thanks again
