Default Repaired iPhone, self activation possible?

Hey guys. Im knew to the iPhone scene and am about to purchase a 2G 8GB version, like new in the box. Only problem was the outer screen was broken (which he includes) and also the digitizer is dead. Before I purchase it he told that when he turned on the phone after inserting a SIM card it asked for a code? I can repair the screen/digitizer no problem, Ive repaired many PDA's and pocket pc's, and I know how to unlock/jailbreak an iphone with various programs. What Im wondering is what could this code be and is it possible to activate (get past the emergency screen) the phone myself? I tried searching and I kept finding different things, some people saying it's possible and other's saying your stuck going to AT&T. Thanks.

No that ddn't help. Yes I know if you plug the iPhone into the computer and have AT&T it will activate it, but I have T-mobile so Im going to jailbreak/unlock the phone with WinPwn and was wondering how I would go about activating the actual phone.

- anyway, the code you are seeing is a password/security code.

So the activation process is bypassed when unlocking the iphone?

when you unlock/jailbreak a 2G you can also activate it. By doing a DFU restore it should get rid of the passcode needed when turning on the phone.

Ok thanks, exactly what I needed to know. Incase you guys are interested, heres what it looks like currently lol. He said that the outer glass is mostly completely chipped off (hes giving me a new one with it) but told me that he broke the digitizer in the process of trying to replace the screen. I then asked if the LCD was cracked and he said he doesnt know, but I don't think it looks like it might be. Im going to go take a look at it today. Anyways, would anyone be interested in a step by step picture how to?
