Sigh... there's a section for turbosims. If you read that you'll see that it "kinda" works, but the method it uses is frowned upon.

Hey guys,I have researched the iPhone 3G a lot,and searched all over the web for any available software unlocking method for it,and all i found was crap...
Until now the only working way is by hardwarely modifying the iPhone itself.

So i am not saying that i am a pro or anything, but all the ways have gotten me to this point...if we know how the process of modifying it hardwarely is done,we will be able to get to a software that unlocks the iPhone 3G...i'd like to know how the hardware unlocking goes, that would be very valuable information...i don't know it it matters to you,but to me it does...

Now trying to dump the OS disk before and after the activation of the unlocked phone. This is much more risky than dumping the nor.

Anyone who has experience on dumping the nand pls contact and give me a hand.
BR
did you get these dumps?

are you thinking to do a physical or a logical dump?

The sim unlocks work by modifying the identification number the phone sends to the phone grid, making the grid think it's an official phone. A real software unlock would instead unlock the phone, or just make the phone think it's official, not the grid.
Tampering with the information that's sent out to the grid could possibly not be a problem to do by software, but the dev team are working to find a method that doesn't do just that.

Are you sure that you will be able to completely dump by physical?
I mean you're saying that you will do no work on logical dump and completely physical dump?
Well i hope you succeed doing that cause it's not gonna be that easy of a job...

Keep the good work man...

Thanks for your reply...but you seem to have not understood my question...i wasn't asking how the sim unlock works...i was asking how unlocking the iPhone by hardware methods work?...

And by the way,it's good that the Dev team is looking for the best feature(like you said:"but the dev team are working to find a method that doesn't do just that.")and we all appreciate their hard work,if it wasn't for their jailbreaking tools we wouldn't be enjoying the iphone as much as we are now...but you know what they say...1st things FIRST.

Is it worth to try at that risky panorama?

I was talking to w___ about mounting+dumping the NAND of the iPod Touch 2G, which I plan to do hopefully this weekend. I wrote up instructions for myself based on what he suggested and I can send them to you if you would like.
