Most 2G iPhones have already been permanently unlocked.
What OS were you running before? Was the iPhone jailbroken before you upgraded to 3.1.2? Your choices are blackra1n or pwnagetool (make and restore a custom ipsw) I recommend pwnagetool, less buggy. Blackra1n is faster but you will experience problems with hackactivation that can generally be fixed. It's just more of a hassle to fix these.

I want to update to the latest 3.1.2 but I dont have access to Mac.
I have a 2G on version 3.0 - unlocked using pwnage & directions from iclarified. Any suggestion? rishi_malik@rediffmail.com |

Because you are already jailbroken you can simply shift-click restore in iTunes and select this custom ipsw to go to 3.1.2
