hey guys,

2g iphone. here's what i want to do:

• be on at&t's network without a data plan.
• want voice.
• want texting.
that's it. (it's for my aunt.)

i've tried redsn0w and quickpwn (both on the mac), and i've gone from
a) nothing.
b) popping my sim in and out and "activating" it without a sim.
and more recently, after more tries,
c) can make calls—cannot get texting—cannot get wifi (how about that).
d) no longer getting edge/texting data on my phone.

my aunt really wants her phone back tonight—can anyone help? i can wait on mine.

Restore in iTunes using the official apple software, use redSnow to do the magic. I am not sure why wifi/text isnt working for you!
Are you sure it is enabled? Also do you have anything installed from cydia which is blocking wifi?

ok, i just tried it again with pwnagetool: i followed the tutorial on iclarified as i went through the steps again, and it never asked me for the bootloaders, so it never asks me if i'm legit user or not (i am/she is, she just doesn't want data, she does want texting, voice and wifi)—do you thing that's part of the problem?

cydia:
ok—didn't install anything with cydia (this is for my aunt), but i do have cydia and icy on there (i'll explain to her not to use.)

wifi:
it is enabled. i can "see" wifi networks. can't join ones i have been on before with this very phone (it used to be mine).

narrowed part of it down to the sim card:
ok—here's the weird thing with texting/edge—i think the quasi-pwned-sn0wed-2g altered the sim. my buddy has a 3gs, and we swapped sim cards about 10 minutes ago.

my card (altered?) his 3gs phone: no edge/data/texting. -
his card (unaltered) my unaltered phone: edge/data/texting. √

i don't think popping his card into the quasi-pwned-sn0wed-2g (even though maybe i've gotten it by this point) is a good idea now, because what if it does the same to him?

is this even possible?
