I'm currently thinking about unlocking my 2G iPhone, but the only thing I can't seem to find a definitive answer about is re-locking and updating the iphone. If I unlock my 2G iPhone, what will happen with the 3.0 update this Summer? Is it possible to brick a phone by updating an unlocked phone with a firmware update? Can I lock the phone back and do the update?
I'm sure these questions have been asked before, and I apologize in advance, but I hope someone out there will help me out! Thanks |

I don't think you can brick it with a firmware update. However make sure you read up on it on the Hackint0sh forum or the DevTeam's site before updating your 2G iPhone to 3.0 and it is possible to re-lock before the update if necessary... This can be done using BootNeuter and restoring it with Apple's unmodified 2.2.1 IPSW... Therefore I would recommend unlocking it. Make sure you read up on it and know what you are doing before hand.
