Bluetooth mouse problem:
That's what I did initially. I attached a cord mouse, and paired/unpaired the bt mouse. Again it works for a few seconds, and then the bt mouse freezes. There is no indication that something doesnt work; the bt manager shows the mouse connected, and there is no message in the console about something going wrong. I unpaired, rebooted, paired, but again the same problem. I also tried running the automator by doing what you suggested, but that didnt seem to work: the automator shuts down after the popup, before asking for the password. As a result I downloaded tha stand alone installer for 10.5.6, and I reapplied it. It seemed to work right after that. Last edited by akouris; 12-20-2008 at 10:27 AM. Reason: title |

The automator programm not running is really strange. What is does in the first steps is really easy: Check for you System and quit if it is not 10.5.6 or better Create a new folder on the Desktop and copy two files into Ask for the admin password Up till this time, nothing really important happens. Then it starts to replace the two files, remove and rebuild the old chache and reboot. As I said i have a BT Apple mouse and keyboard to test here and it is working. What makes me wonder is why the automator programm shuts down before asking for the password, hmmmm

Didn't work for me on an aluminum mac book pro.
The hub and/or powered hub trick didn't work either. |

Thats always a way out of troubele. sometimes when my Mac wont work as expected I just dl the combo update (never the "normal" one) and use it. Works in almost any cases cause lots of stuff gets replaced.

/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/ I would go for the System DVD, start from it and use the combo update 10.5.6 from Apple. Still dont know why it does not work for you, works here on my black MB.

Just wanted to let you know that my brand new MacBook 2.4 GHz (unibody) is at Mac OS X 10.5.6 and has DFU mode re-enabled.
Thats what I did: 1. Got the (virgin) new MacBook 2.4 GHz unibody from my dealer, set up the system at home. 2. Was at Mac OS X 10.5.5, iTunes 7.7.1... 3. Tried DFU mode and got error 2001 (as expected) 4. Started System Extension "Software Update" and hit "Look for Update now" 4. Had to run it twice, got all upgraded, including 10.5.6, EFI Firmware, Trackpad FW,... 5. Tried DFU mode and got error 2001 (as expected) 6. Downloaded and installed "Combo Update 10.5.6" from Apple. i always use the Combo Updates, never the regular ones. saved me lots of trouble over the past years. 7. Tried DFU mode and got error 2001 (as expected) 8. Places the folder "Install_IOUSBFamily_kext_10_5_5" on the Desktop (important), opened it and ran "Fix_DFU_10_5_6". Same procedure as described, reboot at the end 9. Could use my iPhones in DFU mode with iTunes - voila I am glad to have my shiny new MacBook unibody with DFU mode enabled at Mac OS X 10.5.6 One note: Make always sure to be at Mac OS X 10.5.6 & the folder "Install_IOUSBFamily_kext_10_5_5" has to sit on the Desktop!! You must be logged in with the admin account on your Mac and provide the correct password (for that admin account). One last: If you ever run into trouble it is a good idea to start from the System-DVD taht came with the Mac, load the Combo Update 10.5.6 (link above), install it and reboot. I dont have any issues with my Bluetooth Maouse and Keyboard, others seem to have. i will look into that tomorrow. More important, i have backuped all files from my MacBook at all stages of the OS. Will try a compare tomorrow aswell to find out whats going on on the unibody MacBook. v.

I have a unibody MacBook (the "poor" one, not the Pro) with 10.5.6 installed.
I tried the script we're talking about and it worked like a charm . Before that, I cannot force my iPhone in DFU mode.My two cents worth, I stick with abrasBR's explanation. |
