I just wanted to confirm that this works fine with a unibody Macbook late 2008. I needed 2 tries though
![]() The first time i ran the program from my download folder location, which kinda ripped my whole system, but ... After reinstalling the Combo Update and running the program from the Desktop everything just worked fine. Staying tuned for OS 3.0 ![]() bye Smirnoff |

Again, this is the key to success and that's why I put this in bold in post #1: You have to place the unzipped folder with the automator app on the desktop - then run it ;-)

Now I have tried the script to downgrade the USB kernel. After running it, my system hung, apparently waiting to close applications. After a while it indeed closed the applications but that was it. No restart or anything. Two hours later I could do nothing more than restart. No keyboard or mouse or USB, you have heard it before and solutions have been posted. These however assume access to a drive for installation discs. My system is a MacBook Air, only direct drive access is on USB, or it would be a remote install, which actually breaks off in the startup phase. System asks for a restart and goes back to login screen where I cannot type anything due to the missing keyboard or mouse.
I have no VNC access istalled, but am able to access the hard drive through a drive mapping from a different Mac. Any suggestions on how to get some control back? Is it in any way possible to enable VNC remotely? Of course I have admin permissions through my networked drive connection. Thanks for helping out guys! |

My experience in getting 10.5.6 to recognize DFU mode has been a little varied from what I've read so far in this thread. Granted, I haven't read (at this point) all 21 pages, but still...
I installed the Beta 3.0 software for the iPhone, but it really should have been called an Alpha version. Found Gizmodo's post on how to downgrade back to 2.2.1, and of course, part of the steps were to put the phone in DFU mode. Also followed their related post of how to get the 10.5.5 files on your computer so DFU could be recognized. Bad news- Kernel Panic after I restarted. After my heart started again, I tried safe mode (wouldn't boot), and single-user mode (wouldn't give me a prompt). Had some coffee, rebooted my brain, and started thinking... I was able to boot into Target Disk Mode, so I connected my MBP to my gf's MB. Used Pacifist on her computer to install the latest version (not the earlier one which f'd up my comp) of the IOUSB Family from Apple. Pacifist installed those files to my MBP, and when I tried Safe Mode again (fingers crossed, rabbit's foot nearby), I got in. Safe Mode worked fine, and I thought all was well until I reboot the comp, and found that my trackpad and keyboard didn't work. And neither did an external mouse. Safe Mode was fine, however. I've now downloaded the Combo Update, because as I understand it, that's the thing that gets your keyboard and mouse functionality back- not any of the 10.5.5 kext files. I'll post an update after it finishes installing. At any rate, if you have access to another Mac, even with no Leopard install discs (I left mine at my friend's house), you can regain keyboard and mouse functionality with the use of Pacifist and IOUSBFamily.kext 3.2.7 files from Apple. In Safe Mode, that is. But once in Safe Mode, you can download the update, and install. |

UPDATE: For some reason, the Edit Button keeps hanging, but everything works fine. I have a feeling that if I used Pacifist to extract the appropriate files from the Combo Update, I could have gotten everything to work without having to do the entire update, but I digress: It works. My solution may or may not be easier, but you don't have to have the Leopard install discs for it to work.
