I researched for 2 days on how to fix my iMac (10.5.6) for this issue. I used that automator script that was out there for DFU mode when I was upgrading/unlocking my iPhone 2 weeks ago to FW 2.2.1. When that script ran, it never completed or rebooted. I had manually rebooted several times since I had seen comments about issues with the USB ports stop working. Everything on the mac was working fine. Now after 2 weeks, after I rebooted on Tuesday night, the USB ports stopped working and I had no keyboard or mouse. I would get to the login screen yet couldn't type anything. I attempted to boot the iMac in safe mode (as suggested in other forums and sites)but the keyboard and mouse still did not work. I found this thread and am happy to report that I followed the directions step-by-step and everything is working again today! Only thing that I had to change was removing the "/" (forward slash) before the end quotes in step 3: 3. go to "Utilities" > "Terminal" and type: chown -R root:wheel "/Volumes/NAME_OF_YOUR_MACINTOSH_HD/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext" chroot "/Volumes/NAME_OF_YOUR_MACINTOSH_HD" I kept getting an error, so I removed them. Everything is working NOW! THANK YOU!!!

I am not able anymore to use their functions for exemple dashboard, sounds, luminosity... So i tried in my settings, keyboard and stuff to put them back on but it seems that the registry changed and my default settings are the one that i'am already running ![]() So if you have have a solution for me that would be nice.. thx ps iam running a macbook pro unibody 10.5.6 |

Hi everyone,
I got a really really big problem ... ![]() ok, i used the automator script, somehow it didn't work and i noticed when i rebootet and didn't have anything like keyboard or mouse or so ![]() So i restored the original files (usb worked in safemode) and everything was fine again. So i decided to use the DevTeams Tip this time, downloaded the dmg from ADC and installed it. I rebootet and again - no USB. So now the problems: I do not have the damn backups anymore, I have filevault activated and I'm tired ![]() Can someone help me out, ... I'd love to use my keyboard again. ![]() thx ... ![]()

according to the iClarified site on how to unlock 2.x.x 2G
iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your 2.x.x 2G iPhone (Mac) [Updated 2.2.1] it say... "MPORTANT***: If you have Mac OS X 10.5.6 you may have an issue with putting your iPhone into DFU mode. The easiest option is to use a USB hub between your iPhone and the computer. Another option is to run this automator script. NOTE*: Make sure the script completes properly. If the files are not replaced properly you will lose keyboard and mouse upon reboot. Later today we will post a third alternative for enabling DFU mode on your Mac. i have a late 2008 macbook running 10.5.5. i understand the late 2008 USB file has been modified not to recognize DFU mode, so i chose the 'USB hub' option the other day. it fails but it does not put the 2G phone into DFU mode. here is my question. is the USB hub ONLY works for 10.5.6??? |

In both cases: some users report that a powered USB hub make DFU work, some dont. I have an Unibody late 2008 aswell (besides a black 2yr old Macbook and iMac 24", both at 10.5.6). i upgraded my Unibody to 10.5.6 and used the Automator solution, as on the other Macs, all get my iPhones into DFU without any problem. The only improtant thing: The folder containing the Automator app has to sit on the Desktop when running the script (see 1st post). wont cause any problems then. If you dont, you are in trouble, as some users here.

i would prefer to go the USB route just to avoid the possibility of any mishaps. what do you mean by a 'powered' USB hub? i use a regular USB hub, is there a difference, if so, how?? |
