agreed. i have an unibody MacBook running 10.5.5

(1) i am reluctant to upgrade to 10.5.6 because it has some issues
(2) i am reluctant to modify IOUSBFamily.kext because many people here seem to have problems with the keyboard and mouse one way or another.

i am very surprised people who have used the USB hub have not attempted to explain how and why it works.

after all, it would be a lot cheaper and less frustrated to use the USB hub if it really works around the DFU issue.

I think the USB hub works because it uses its own drivers and not the macs drivers. I ordered a powered USB hub yesterday and will give it a try when it arrives

is it really true that USB hub comes with its own driver? if this is indeed the case, which i hope you can verify after you get yours, then everyone who has problems modifying the IOUSBFamily.kext should STOP and buy a USB hub. why deal with the fear of losing keyboard and mouse in the process.

am i correct in assuming your current mac does not recognize DFU mode, therefore you plan to take the USB hub route?

please let us know if your USB hub does the trick.

Default Automator script not working for DFU workaround for 10.5.6

Run shell script is failing

getting the following message in Automator

cp:/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBHub.kext: No such file or directory

Goes through all the steps but after i enter my administrator password, nothing happens

Any Ideas?

I'm going by what I read in other forums regarding the drivers for the USB hub so we'll see.

I'm not too sure about the DFU Mode on my Mac, like I said in my earlier post I ran the script (from the wrong folder, downloads)hit enter when the first admin box(the one that had the password already filled in) popped up and then entered my admin password on the second popup, hit OK on the readme and then I got the backup folder on the desktop but no reboot, nothing. I then moved the automator folder into the backup folder and ran the automator again but it only goes through the step when I hit OK on the ReadMe then nothing happens.

I plug the phone in and turn it off and close iTunes. I then hold the power/home for 10 seconds and then release the power and continue to hold home till iTunes pops up and gives my the 2001 error, the screen stays black on the phone so its not in Recovery Mode(with the cable pointing to iTunes).

So I'm sure exactly WTF is going on with it but it sure is frustrating when all you want to do is jailbreak then darn thing.

I wish someone one on the Dev Team or another great hack team would just figure out how to fake the signature on apps so ppl could develop their own apps with Apples Dev Tool kit and then we could load them easily through iTunes without having to jailbreak. This makes sense to me....but it may not be the way it works.

Anyone know why when I login to the forums all the threads have the newest post and the top of page 1 instead of at the bottom of the last page? Is there a preference that I am not seeing to set them to show up with the last post at the bottom of the last page?

i have the exact problem with you. when i view this thread, i see the newest post at the bottom. however, once i logged in, the newest post at the top. i looked every where for a preference and i found nothing.

when do you get your USB hub? from what i have read, USB hub for the most part do not come with it own USB driver. if so, i am thoroughly confused why other claimed USB hub work for them. there is absolutely no basis whatsoever.

I'm not too sure when it'll get here, I bought it on eBay so maybe Fri/Sat(I hope)

I wish Volkspost would catchup on this thread and give us some insight as to whether or not the files from 10.5.5 got copied into my machine or not and if I'll have the mouse/keyboard issue if I delete the backup folder on my desktop....I'm kinda afraid to delete it as Moosa said after he deleted the folder on his desktop that he started having the USB issues....

do you know instead of using the script, you can also manually copy those two files if you are familiar with viewing the content of the IOUSBFamily.kext. the way, you have more control as to what files are you copying over.
