I have an original 4gb iPhone that I have unlocked with every update since 1.02 (mostly with ziphone). I am pwned with 2.1 and original BL 3.9. I am having issues with edge/grps working intermittently and incoming calls where the phone doesn't ring and the call goes straight to voicemail.

My question is this, if I have done the upgrades and pwned/bootneutered the phone, would virginzing and starting over help anything?

virginiser was only for 1.0.x i suggest u restore to 2.1 and dont use the back up made by itunes

This guide is showing how to update your iPhone 1st Gen to 2.1 from firmware 1.0.2. Before restoring/updating iPhone to firmware 2.1 and if it was activated/jailbroken/unlocked using older software solution. iPhone needs to be virginized first to repair it's baseband/modem firmware.

Preparation:

- iPhone 1st Gen 1.0.2
- iTunes 7.5 and 8.0
- 1.0.2 and 2.1 ipsw
- iLiberty+

Steps:

1. Skip this step and proceed to step 2 if Installer on iPhone does not crash (can launch). Uninstall iTunes if it's version is not version 7.5 and applemobiledevice from the Control Panel. Install iTunes 7.5 after restarted PC and backup iTunes Music folder by adding .bak at the end of the folder name.

1.a Launch iTunes 7.5 and restore iPhone to firmware 1.0.2. Install iLiberty+ if it is not installed and launch it.

1.b Go to advanced, check activate, Installer and BSD Subsystem 3 options on Local tab. Download on Available on repo tab if 3 of them cannot be found on Local tab.

1.c On Selected Payloads tab, make sure 3 options above are checked and click "Go for it". Disconnect and connect iPhone if iLiberty+ is asking to and click ok.

1.d If iPhone does not response for 1-2 minutes, go to Other Tools on iLiberty+ and click jump out from Recovery Mode. iPhone screen will have scrolling text and reboot. Once rebooted, iPhone will be activated/jailbroken and Installer is on home screen.

2. Set Autolock to never, make sure iPhone has wireless connection and the battery is fully charged. Launch Installer on iPhone and add http://i.unlock.no to the source and refresh it.

3. Check BSD Subsystem is installed. Go to Unlocking Tools category to install "The Virginizer" that will take about 10 minutes to complete. Do not interrupt it.

4. Disconnect iPhone if it is still connected to PC. Install iTunes 8.0 and restart PC if it's prompted to. Launch iTunes 8.0 and connect iPhone to PC.

5. Hold home and sleep/wake button at the same (home button first follow by sleep/wake button). Release sleep/wake button when iPhone screen goes black but keep holding home button. Wait iTunes to detect iPhone in recovery mode.

6. Hold shift key and click restore button. Locate 2.1 ipsw to let iTunes to restore iPhone to firmware 2.1. Once iTunes finished restoring iPhone and it is ready to activate/jailbreak/unlock. Click here to check how to pwn iPhone 1st Gen 2.1 using windows Quickpwn 2.1.

Thanks for the detailed instructions Alvink83, I don't know if this matters but I did just about every software jailbreak/unlock from 1.02-1.14 and then 2.0-2.1. In Pwnage Tool there is an option to "Enable Baseband Update". If this was selected, is it still necessary to go through these steps to virginize the phone?

You have been at 1.1.4 unlocked. That was working, right? So you should go straight ahead to 2.1, no need to virginize.
