That would be very nice too... Thou there will be people that might want to update their already working systems (like me). Anyway I couldnt wait to try the new kernel. I updated manually and is working very good so far......
Thanx 2 semtex! how I (update from 1048 to 1049+891 kernel): -download the new kernel from irc.hackint0sh.org #1049 -download the 10.4.9 intel update (160MB) from apple -backup: AppleACPIPlatform.kext AppleAPCI.kext AppleSMBios.kext IOAtaFamily.kext loginwindow.app -run the apple update. after it's finished DONT RESTART!, DO NOT RESTART. -extract the kernel file to the desktop and rename it as 'mach_kernel' type this in the terminal: sudo cp /mach_kernel /mach_kernel.back (type your password) sudo cp -f ~/Desktop/mach_kernel / sudo chown root:wheel /mach_kernel* sudo chmod 644 /mach_kernel* -Restore the backuped kexts to the /system/library/extensions folder -Delete any Titan or Natit kext you were using (unless you are shure that is compatible with 1049). -repair permissions -reboot It's working very smooth for me. I was using titan (from a prasys's GF5200 installer); I had to change to natit (version 0.2 dual from Diabolik) to be able to use the new nvidia kexts. I hope I didnt forget any step. Check also the guide by jarodsix a few posts below. Last edited by blackchungo; 04-06-2007 at 01:40 PM. |

To update to 10.4.9 with kernel 8.9.1 for SSE2:
- download 8.9.1 SSE2 kernel from irc.hackint0sh.org #1049 - download Jas SSE3 10.4.9 combo update from demon - backup extensions folder and mach_kernel from your root - install 10.4.8 using jas amd/intel/sse2/sse3 universal DVD (kernel 8.8.1) - install jas SSE3 only 10.4.9 update, DON'T RESTART AFTERWARDS !!! - delete r3d3.kext from /System/Library/Extesions (not needed with new 8.9.1 sse2 kernel) - delete /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext (maybe not needed)* - unpack 8.9.1 SSE2 kernel from irc package, rename it to "mach_kernel" and place it into root - make sure there is AppleSMBios.kext in your extensions folder - edit /etc/rc (or what the path to rc script is) and remove the (two) traces of "kextload /System/Library/Extensions/r3d3.kext" (these force loading of r3d3 when starting under safe mode?) - repair permissions - reboot - you might need to install 10.4.4 loginwindow from Jas 10.4.9 SSE3 update package, also you need to repair samba/afp using the included patch hopefuly i didn't miss anything out. It works like a charm for me. Feel free to correct my post.
