Hello Folks,

I installed the recent Ideneb 10.5.5 distribution onto a Dell vostro 300

I added a 3com 905 nic card prior to the install.

The entire install goes perfectly, I can boot of the HDD fine, USB is working fine, however I am unable to get the sound working.

During the install I selected the sound driver (adi1998b) as an option.

however after the install No sound device is detected.

doing a vanilla install with Kalyway 10.5.2 The sound drivers are installed properly and sound works perfectly.

(however with kalyway, USB support is only partial: for example, the kalyway install will see my brother mfc 440 printer, however if I plug my iphone into a usb port it is not recognized, nor does the Iphone recognize it has been plugged into a usb.. and will not even start charging..)


Anyone have any pointers on how I can get the sound working on the Ideneb install..

According to a lookup using my dell service tag, The Sound is: a Realtek ALC 888 chipset

The desktop is a Vostro 200 mini-tower with the Intel G33 chipset.


(I mistakenly referred to it as a vostro 300 in my post title)

and thanks for all of the input.

I have managed to get the sound working.

I installed the kexts found in: HDA_ICH9_ALC_888.zip

rebooted

and now sound is working perfectly.
