For video please check the link in the post installation part, it will work for 8400~8800 GT, so you'll be fine, if your LAN and Wireless are different then ours, please post your chipset

Thumbs up HP Pavilion Elite m9340f

Ok, I was able to install JaS OSx86 10.5.4 ver! However, being new to all this, I am having several issues. No ethernet or wireless. It is only running on 1 core, resolution only available in 1024x768. No ps2 functionality(keyboard)and under hardware overview, it does not list the correct hardware.Sound does work!!I did not update the BIOS. Could not check off options "All and 1" under NON Critical block,It was greyed out. I did see an update available for my BIOS on the HP website for Ver5.32. I do have to boot using "CPUS=1" command or it will keep rebooting. Anyway to fix this? I am a newbie so please, detailed instructions!! eg; where and how to update/install drivers!
Many Thanks in advance for all your hard work!!

Try to open the BIOS MOD before select the Options, then you can select they "All and 1" if you dont want to MOD your BIOS or Cant do it, try to use DSDT Patcher and Chamaleon with DSDT Override, you need to use Retail OSX, I cant update this tutorial for this yet cuz I need a new HDD for this, you need to use the whole HDD for this installation so... Read about these stuff and try to follow this guide too, good luck

P.S. I think theres a guy here with your same computer, but you have to check all the pages @.@

Wink

I believe I missed that step! I went straight to the AUWIN process. Will modifying my BIOS resolve all these issues? Also, do I need to re-install OS X and start from the beginning? I am dual booting with Vista. Will it be affected in anyway when flashing the BIOS? I will look for that thread.

Thank You !

Yeah after MOD your BIOS you dont need to use cpus=1, no idea if you need to install again but try to boot after mod to check it out

Check this post to dual boot Vista/OSX

Good Luck

Talking Upgrade power supply and video to 9800 GT, it works!

My wife bought me a $25 500Watt PS with PCIE16x power connector and a BFG 9800 GT OC/512MB for Christmas (www.tigerdirect.com et al) < $200 CDN.

Happy to report the PS fit fine in the case, and the 9800 GT works including CI/QE with Leopard 10.5.6.

So now my investment, is $99 for another 720MB drive, $200 for PS/Video, and $650 for the 8430f. About a $1000 CDN, or $750 USD. Much cheaper than a Mac Pro, lol. I'm using the ICH9R chipset RAID0, so I'm not using the two drives under Leopard, just under Vista and Ubuntu.

Oh and without any tape mods or anything, I used clockgen.exe to set my FSB to 329, RAM runs at 490MHz, instead of 400MHz, CPU is 2.94GHz and is highly stable. Somehow clockgen.exe magically updates something somewhere, so that the settings stay set even when I boot into Leopard. I tried FSB at 333 but the ram went to 500MHz, and it was not stable. Anyway 23% speed improvement instead of 25% is close enough After playing Crysis for a few hours (maxed out btw) the CPU didn't go above 58C. Runs at about 37C when idle at the 2.94GHz setting.

Anyone know how to change (a utility other than clockgen.exe or setfsb.exe) the RAM timings to not be 2:3 but something else to keep it running at 400MHz when the FSB is changed? Or even better a hacked AMI bios for the mainboard that has features to do this (like a real ASUS mainboard, rather this crippled OEM bios).

Happy New Year!

Smile RE: Upgrade power supply and video to 9800 GT, it works!

No new fan, I'm using the stock Cool Max CPU fan that came with the HP.
I'm using iAtkos 10.5.4 as the base install, then I upgrade to 10.5.5 then 10.5.6 using the tips from links you posted. Much thanks.

Most of the overclocking sites say the Q6600 can easily use a 400MHz FSB (CPU would be 3.6GHz, vs 2.4GHz at 266Mhz) and stay stable and relatively cool. But I would need a "real ASUS" mainboard with bios support to change the FSB:RAM clock ratio and change voltages etc. The RAM seems to be the stability point on these HP machines. I couldn't push it past 490MHz. I may upgrade to 8MB of RAM, if so I may get OC'able RAM or something, but that would push the price of this hackintosh way past $1000 CDN, which would be sort of silly; I could have built a custom system from scratch for about the same price.

BTW, you can get clockgen from www.cpuid.com
Use the IDT CV174C PLL

http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=569900

Anyway with the 9800GT I can play Crysis and Fallout 3, which were not playable with the stock 8500GT (yes on Vista, not mac os).

I'm still struggling with the boot132/Chameleon stuff, but I hope to use a firewire drive instead of USB drive; I think I finally figured out how to insert all the correct kexts into the ram disk image for firewire support; a couple more hours hacking and I'll post back the details. Though I'm pretty addicted to Crysis right now

Happy New Year.

So I was able to mod my BIOS and no longer need to boot with cpus=1. However, I tried to install the video driver posted on your post installation tutorial and now when I boot into OS X, it asks me restart with Chinese letters under it. Is there a way to undo this change without having to re-install Leopard?

Thanks!
