I bought a G5 when they first came out, was very happy with it, until after about 2 years the logic board fried itself and the computer became completely useless! After taking it to many mac repair guys, the cheapest price i could find for a new logic board was around £750.. oh dear.
I was recently talking to a friend of mine, he told me he'd heard about OSX86, and that I might be able to replace my fried logic board with a new, cheaper Intel one, and that I might be able to revive my dead computer!
I was just wondering if you think this would work, and also if you know if any of the other existing components in my G5 would be compatible, or whether I would have to buy other new items.

You would need to replace the video card, ram and possibly the power supply. And will have to modify the internals of the case.

And for the RAM, i'm not sure but i think it will work in a PC so... I've been using PC ram in my G4 and in a iMac and it works.

id say check if its in warrenty and if it is go to an apple store and see if they will fix it

Just get the "logic board"/motherboard replaced by Apple (if you love your G5 that much = £750 ), you can't install a PPC processor on an x86 Intel board.

If you don't want to spend an exorbitant price for the board, sell the G5's parts (or as a whole) and get a newer Mac. I wouldn't recommend an OSx86 rig if you don't want to deal with the lack of official support and the possibility of an incompatible setup; but if you're the adventurous type who's willing to have some "downtime" with their work/school/etc stuff with the occasional bugs here and there, welcome to OSx86.

Not to discourage you or anything, but if you just want things to work as they should, you're better off with a real Mac. No problems there except the price
