I've always just assumed with an Unlocked phone you couldnt use GPRS/EDGE so I never cared and just dealt with it, but it occured to me you can.. I've never seen a "E" sign since i first got my iPhone which was 1.1.4 otb, when I had 1.1.4 finally unlocked for my UK t-mobile SIM card there was always a square block where I assume the "E" Shouldve went? But I've updated to 2.1 now and I don't see that block or an "E".
I'm on T-mobile UK, with a 2.1 unlocked phone how can I get EDGE/GPRS to work? thanks.

Do you have a hardware or software unlock?
