I have attempted to carry out the process using terminal for

rm /var/root/Library/Preferences/com.apple.carrier.plist

ln -s /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support/O2_UK.plist /var/root/Library/Preferences/com.apple.carrier.plist

rm -f /var/root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist

with no avail, i've also edited the 02_UK.plist file as stated in the previous post but after carrying this out I know longer have the EDGE settings in Network.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

well does edge work now??
and also, you shouldnt have the edge menu in network, that was removed in 1.1.2 or maybe even 1.1.1

If anything goes wrong with my iphone when i get it on christmas day, will there be anyone on here to help? I've been telling my mum for the last 2 months that it wont break the thing using this method to unlock the iphone but is there a chance it could?

One thing i was worried about was doing this on my mum's pc, if i do the unlock on my mum's pc and then take it back home, will it work ok when i connect it to my pc?

i dunno. you need to connect to itunes to do the first downgrade
cant you wait until you get home???

make sure that any passwords are correct for the wifi
also, some places like work block sites like that
try turning the phone off and on again, then it should work

I simply cannot wait any longer to get my iPhone working. So thanks, but no thanks.

surely its only like 6 hours until you get home that evening, unless youre staying with her for a few weeks or so
anyway, you could try plugging it into her pc in restore mode and seeing what happens

so i gave a possible solution to your problem, its not what you wanted to hear so you have a hissy fit. what was the point in the question if all you wanted to hear was 'yes it will work fine'

oh and by the way, the iphone cant be unlocked. it can be activated so you can use any o2 sim in uk iphones, any at&t sim in us iphones, and tmobile sim in de iphones etc etc

most problems have been answered, use the search feature
if not, someone wil be on here, if not christmas day, then the day after
also, remember there will be many others on here trying to do what you do, im sure someone will be around to help

Thanks Trunkz for the excellent instructions. Though being a total noob I was able to jailbreak my 1.1.2 oob bought from US very easily. I am using it right now on my Pre Paid AT & T card. Thanks a bunch

I want to jailbreak another 1.1.2 (bought from US) and ship it to my cousin in UK, who wants to use it with O2 but without signing up for any contracts. I understand that this method will definitely work with O2 in UK if the phone is bought from UK, but will this also work for (1.1.2) phones bought in US? If not, is there another method to jailbreak a US 1.1.2 phone that will work with O2 in UK.

I tried to search and found another post in the thread but did not get the answer completely. Please be gentle, this is my first post and I DID search both on this forum and on Google.

Phil, problem is now resolved, when 02 put the Data Bolt On on my account they messed it up!

They have re enabled data on my account and its now functioning. Thanks for your help.
