i just ran pacay on my unlocked, jailbroken iphone that had no "service". Then I finally got four bars, and tmobile was displayed in the top left corner. At the the time of me writing this, my iphone no longer has service and tmobile is no longer displayed in the top left corner.

It's almost like the phone is trying to get the signal, but maybe doesn't know what to do with it after it's received.
I don't think this is a hardware issue anymore, otherwise there wouldn't be quite a strong response by the phone to get a signal at first, but drop it shortly afterwards. |

I totally agree with Vat: a defective-born electronic component can overheat easily, showing unpredictable behaviour.
indeed, is a "cool" test too...

I had the same problem when I tried to set up the TurboSIM for the first time, using the ISA method. After executing a full recovery and going for the Applesaft method instead, everything was OK. I still think that something went wrong with the method you applied, maybe you should restart the whole thing from scratch. |

I've been having the exact same problem, and I'm pretty much convinced that it is a heat related hardware problem.
In fact, I've noticed that the back of the unit feels warm, just above the apple logo. On a hunch, I decided to disable WiFi ... and touch wood ... it's been working for the past 4 hours. I've been trying to stress test it, using the browser and e-mail a lot (which is painful over EDGE ), and so far, so good. It's less than ideal...and we'll see if this success is just a temporary fluke...but you might want to try turning off WiFi. |

If you're trying to make us sing the Log song while we make calls, you may be onto something.
But I'll still wait for the basband re-writer. |

I'm thinking that there is a sync issue with the baseband.
One part of it can detect the network signal, but the filtering process of another portion of it will dissmiss it, which causes it to read the signal as No Service and wait for something else. Like the basband is looking for the network associated to your Sim card, but somewhere else it's realizing that signal as not ATT or something. Resulting in it being rejected. |
