OK, so from what I see, here's how the iPhone activation works:
1. iPhone requests activation info from iTunes 2. iTunes asks you to activate 3. You activate 4. iTunes sends OK to iPhone iNdependence, iFuntastic, and similar tools seem to be trying to modify the iPhone so it doesn't need to be activated. One completely different approach (remember the first activation guide by DVD Jon?) has been tested to work with iPhone 1.0.0 though 1.0.2, and should work here, too. I found this app while trying to unlock a 1.0.2 iPhone, and I think it should work for the new version, too. I would test it, but I don't want to brick my new iPhone. edit: never mind, i tested it. Could someone with a 1.1.1 non-activated iPhone try this out? http://www.pqdvd.net/iphone-unlock-toolkit.html (based on dvd jon's itunes method, windows only) note: you need itunes 7.3.0.5 (or 7.3.0.54??? maybe...) for this to work. nothing else. If you don't have it, uninstall your iTunes and install that version (there's a link to download it on the page above) hope it works! edit: it works! (for me, at least. post your results here) Last edited by igul222; 09-28-2007 at 12:36 AM. |

um... I had said probably works. then I changed it to "works", when I got the courage to test it myself. results may vary for you, but it works over here!

to clarify:
1. I have 1.1.1 firmware 2. The unlock from the link above works for me 3. My iPhone had been SIM unlocked with AnySIM previously (when it was 1.0.2) 4. Now, it's NOT SIM unlocked, but it IS activated (meaning you can use all non-phone features) 5. Before I say that it's totally confirmed to be working, I'm waiting for someone else to try it out |

What provider were you using when you unlocked it?
