Default [Problem] [Solved] I relocked my 2G Iphone

Sorry guys if I don't sound that tech-savy. Anyway, I own a 2G Iphone that I unlocked using Ziphone 1.1.4 and have been using that for about 2 years and running it on T-Mobile. Moved overseas 2 weeks ago and decided I wanted to upgrade my 2G from 1.1.4 to 3.0 firmware using Pwnage 3.0. Here's what I did:

Through Itunes I updated my phone to 3.0 firmware BUT I believe this automatically relocked my phone. It keeps saying on Itunes that it doesn't support my sim card and pretty much all I can do is make emergency calls on my Iphone (ARGGGG!).

So my question is how can I unlock my Iphone again so I can upgrade to 3.0? I tried using Pwnage 3.0 but it looks like the sim card problem causes and issue with the unlock. I downloaded the latest Ziphone program but it keeps giving me the error USBMuxListenerCreate: Unknown error: 0 when I ask it to unlock/jailbreak/activate my phone. Although all my stuff is backed up I REALLY hope my Iphone is not bricked! PLEASE HELP!!!!

Hi there,

I am not a full tech specialist but have been on the topic for quite a while and also have an unlocked 2G phone. The first thing that is for sure: Do NOT use Ziphone!

Try pwnage again - here is a very good tutorial:

iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.0 Using PwnageTool (Mac)

iClarified offers many solid tutorials, always good to look there.
Good luck!

Tried this method. Something pretty weird happened:

1) Using pwnage 3.0 and followed the instructions and put my phone in DFU mode (2nd to final step) but pwnage doesn't recognize that

2) So assuming that was just a glitch I restored my Iphone using the pwnage 3.0 IPSW file

3) Everything seemed to extract/update ok but then Itunes gives the following error message Iphone "iphone" could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1600)

4) So right now my phone is still stuck in DFU mode (screen is just black) but Itunes says it is recovery mode. I want to try just simply restoring via Itunes but I think chances are it will bring me right back to square one (3.0 firmware but the phone is relocked).

So what other suggestions do you guys have? All I want at this point is to be able to use my phone unlocked. If I can get 3.0 great...if not, that's fine as long as the phone works. THANKS!

with error 1600, are you on a mac? if so, one thing that can help is to remove any files under ~/Library/iTunes/Device Support/ and try the restore again. You can also check that the permissions are correct on this directory.

Another one that might seem obvious is that it really helps to restart after installing/uninstalling a version of iTunes.

I would definitely suggest trying both of these and trying again.

To get out of DFU mode hold power and home buttons down for more than 10 seconds while the iphone is connected to your computer. The screen will come back on and it should display the connect to iTunes graphic and is now in normal restore mode rather than DFU mode.

Thanks! Actually I did the same thing before you posted. I am on a Mac. Basically I restored to 3.0 firmware for my 2G Iphone. So now my Iphone is back to square one and doesn't support my sim card.

My buddy suggested that if pwnage doesn't work that I should give Redsn0w a try. Going to give that a go and see what happens.

If you guys have any more bright ideas keep them coming! I'll keep everyone posted with my progress. Thanks!

Redsn0w worked like a charm. Phone is unlocked now and running 3.0. Honestly, I think Redsn0w is way easier to use than pwnage 3.0. Either way, thanks for all the support guys!

Redsn0w is the successor to quickpwn, both were designed to quickly jailbreak and activate phones.

PwnageTool allows full control over the restore process, you can choose to not apply baseband updates (useful for 3G where unlocks are tied to a specific baseband) and pre-install extra components.

With these extra features comes more complexity and more interactions with other programs (especially iTunes) that make it harder to control the reliability for all users.
