My Iphone is unlocked with Ziphone. For weeks now it would not be recognized anymore by my PC on USB, would not charge on USB (just from an old firewire powered power supply), would not go to recovery and DFU...
I was thinking of a hardware failure (sync port) but then why would it not go to Recovery or DFU...USB is not connected then!! Until I found this article: New Apple patent disables iPhone’s recharge function for unauthorized use ( http://blogs.zdnet.com/ip-telephony/?p=1812#comments ). It seems that Apple has a soft lock when iphone has a "suspicion" of misuse.... Can anybody confirm my assumption and do you know of a way to bypass this feature? The only way to do it would be via SSH or Installer as these are the only means to access my iphone right now. |

I have been trying other computers with the same results and am using ITunes 7.6 (also tried reverting to elder version without success). The point is that even the PC do not see the iphone so it should not be related to Itunes (at least as far as i can see).
Regarding your comments I absolutely agree and it would be counter-productive for Apple if it turns true. It is just that while browsing through forums i realized that quite many people had similar problem than mine and without fix apparently. Also the fact that PC does not see IPhone so may be some hw burnt on my iphone but then why iphone does not go to recovery or DFU when i press the buttons? The all thing started when i, by mistake, hit direclty the recovery button (without shift) on itunes. The process crashed and ITunes would have had a way to recognize that my iphone was "funny" at this stage.... One way to prove it would be to revert to OTB state but i have only SSH access and cannot find a way to do it this way..i do not think of another way to see if the phone has a hw problem... |

As i mentioned the phone does not go in DFU mode. I tried all methods. Holding both buttons; and releasing the Power only after 7 seconds....The phone just shuts down and does not go into DFU. PC does not recognize it.

Remember Pierre that if your USB cable is not disconnected from your Iphone when you try to set it to DFU mode this will not work.
Just in case....

I'm yet to see a phone that is unable to be put under DFU...
Do THAT: 1 - turn or phone ON... wait untill it finished boot and CONNECT the USB cable and open itunes. 2 - press BOTH buttons and hold them, when the screen goes blank count until 3 and release the UPPER button. 3 - Keep it pressed until it's under DFU and itunes detects it as "recovery mode" (and the screen is blank) now you're under DFU... |

I confirm the No-Go to DFU symptom. Here is what i do:
1. I press and hold both buttons 2. i see the Slide to Switch off screen; i keep pressing 3. The screen goes blank; i keep pressing 4. after may be 1/2 second the Apple logo comes back; i keep pressing 5. The screen goes back again; I release the Power button only after 3 seconds 6. I connect the USB No DFU...no recognition by PC...No recognition by ITunes I tried releasing at stage 3 ... No luck I tried to keep the USB cable connected all the times ... No luck I have to confess that i have been using swear words towards my IPhone but although it is a great machine, i don't think it has AI and become stubborn because of that... |
