Default [Wifi] - Investigation of instability

There are two types of wifi issues caused by ziphone (and some earlier unlockers) -- grey wifi (i.e. no wifi at all), but also unstable wifi. This topic will focus only on the second problem...the swifi utility often fixes the first (see other threads on swifi). This thread is only about unstable wifi, not grey wifi. I.e., you can occasionally get wifi but it doesn't last very long, and you maybe have wifi overheating problems, etc.

I'd like to collect the wifi tables for those of you with unstable wifi. If you could download the "swdump" utility from the dev wiki and run it and send me your tables, maybe a pattern will emerge. The wiki page is http://wikee.iphwn.org/sgold_bootrom:fakeblank and swdump is near the bottom of that page. To run it: get it onto your iPhone, unload the CommCenter, and do "swdump myparams.bin". You need to be fakeblanked to run this (use BootNeuter). My email is musclenerd@iphone-dev.org .

Please post a quick note here after you email your tables and indicate when you first started seeing problems -- was it after running a particular program or just walking down the street one day, etc.

Hi MuscleNerd,

I figure out how to get the dump files you need to get and compare the tables. This was the steps I followed:

After SSH my phone and installed swdump:

- Reflashed my bootloader to 4.6 FakeBlank using BootNeuter
- launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
- killall -9 CommCenter
- No matching processes were found
- swdump myparams.bin
- WiFi tables dumped to myparams.bin

Background of my problem:

The first time I unlocked my phone was directly through the installer using the first GeoHotz method, one day after more or less 2 weeks after this unlocking method, I was watching TV one night and wanted to research something. Without any notice the phone started to loose connection or rebooting without any sense.

I thought it was just a little problem, two days later, my iPhone still have the same problem so I decided to upgrade my 1.1.2 OTB phone to 1.1.4 using the Ziphone 2.5c.

Since then I never was able to fix this problem, I tried everything, every firmware version, reflashing the baseband, iLiberty+ etc...

As you may know the usual symptoms are a constantly rebooting due overheating, problems trying to maintain or keep the connection, "can't join network" issue, or sometimes you know the AP is available but the phone can't find it.

Every time I want to SSH or download something from the installer I have to put my phone inside the freezer for at least 5 minutes. After being taken the phone, the WiFi signal becomes stronger and the connection works without problems. Then, when the phone start to get hotter, the problem continue as usual.

Also, when it's hot or having problems, instead of assign the real IP (example: 192.168.1.5) it gives something like 169.256.344.3 (????)

Now I'm sending you my params.bin

I'm gonna send it as well, today or tmrow...
anyway mine phone is HW unlocked, now running 1.1.4 BL 3.9, but the problem used to occure even before the unlock, so I'm pretty sure that in my case it's not HW problem... Also it may be useful that reflashing BB helps it, however as I've found out only on temporary basis.
Lastely I've got all the problems described above

brb i should change mine sig

Hi MuscleNerd,

I dump files you need to get and compare the tables.

The following is what I do,

1.copy swdump to /var/root/

2. Reflashed my bootloader to 3.9 FakeBlank using BootNeuter(bootloader 3.9 FB is ok?)

3.and use term-vt100.app to type following command

I. launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
II. killall -9 CommCenter
and iphone response: No matching processes were found
III. ./swdump myparams.bin
and i got myparams.bin

and background of my problem:

my iphone is OTB 1.1.1 Bootloader 3.9

unlock by anySIM 1.1

and upgrade to 1.1.3 unlock by Ziphone

and use normally 1 weeks

someday, my iphone keep reboot,

finally,i find out problem, when my iphone keep search wifi signal, and iphone will reboot,

when I turn wifi off,not keep auto reboot,

and try restore any firmware, reflash BB,swifi, any method, but invalidation
------------------------------------------------------------------------

and sometimes when I turn on wifi,I can use wifi for minutes, even all half day,

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

but now I meet big problem, when I turn on wifi, when search wifi signal, and auto reboot,

My Wifi Show: No Wi-Fi,

but I use swifi,iphone response:Nothing to fix

and I try to use ibooter, wifi address is existing, but iphone's Setting show "No Wi-Fi"

but, sometimes reboot iphone by myself,Wi-Fi will come back,

and still instable, turn on wifi then reboot, and easy become "No Wi-Fi"

it's annoying cycle

Instable Wifi<------->No Wi-Fi

I think Osval will meet my problem,

In beginning,I just keep auto rebooting, and final got No Wi-Fi

Default swdump

I'm trying to run "swdump"

-I added a new folder (swdump) in usr
-I loaded "swdump" into sbin folder
-unload the CommCenter
-kill all -9
- #swdump myparams.bin
"zsh: permission denied: swdump"
why am I getting this?

I'm using "alpine" as password the same of sftp connection.

I tryed to use reboot comand and it worked.

I'm sorry probabily is a stupid question

Default My problem

I have the same exact problem of Taiwanleon, Osval, Clone and as I'm reading others.

I got the phone from usa 2 months ago, it was 1.1.2 unlocked (don't know by what method) after a month of normal use it started to show the problems. When it first started it was searching for wifi

It reboots and crashs when trying to connect wifi, I'm not sure that is due an overheating for real, I feel more like normal use but I can't be sure.

If I keep the phone turned off for long (about 7-8 hours) the wifi gets back for a while (between 10 to 60 minutes)

I tryed everything to fix it but nothing worked

Thanks a lot for helping us.
Ciao
