Alright, I've got a 5 day old iphone I just bought for use with tmobile. I know it hasn't been unlocked yet but I wanted to get it before I had to wait for 1.1.3 to be unlocked... so I got it downgraded, jailbroken, and activated, just waiting for the unlock. In the mean time, I went to an AT&T store and asked to buy a prepaid sim, but was given it for free instead. I got home, went online, and activated it for use with a go phone. I got a phone number, put the sim card into the iphone and nothing. Then I started googling and found out you can't do what I did, it won't work, so I read about how to sign up through Itunes and set your SS to an invalid number etc. but I didnt finish it because I got all the way to confirming my 2 year contract... something I never want to do with ATT. Anyways... I decided to scrap the idea of prepaid iphone and stop before I screwed something up. I plugged the phone into Itunes but itunes now listed the phone number under the info as the 312 area coded number the prepaid sim had given. I had already taken the prepaid sim out and put back in the unactivated card that came with the phone, but no matter what card I used, it shows the 312 number in itunes. When activating the prepaid sim, I had to enter the phones IMEI, so I put in the iphones... and now itunes shows the prepaid number in the info. Will this affect anything in the long run, once I unlock it for tmobile? Or should I just not do anything and wait.

shouldnt affect it, itunes is a bit temperamental about the phone number it shows
also, sounds like you didnt activate it right, as any at&t sim can be used

When in doubt, RESTORE! your phone will be fine, just downgrade and update. When itunes say ur phone is rebooting after the update, close itunes before it goes to the activation screen. run the jailbreak program which also activates ur phone and now u can pop in any att simi card into ur phone and it will work

Depending on which sort of pre paid sim you get for att u need to call in to complete the activation of the prepaid(this has nothing to do with the iphone) So if u got a pay as you go, then all u need to do insert ur sim, if you got a pick ur plan u need to call18664997888 to complete the activation and provide ur credit card detials.

I googled around and read a couple of guides from people that tried what I did but said it doesn't work. When I put the card in, all it shows is no bars in the corner. From what I've read, people couldn't get it working unless they used the fake SS number during activation. So if I call, they'll set up the card the right way for me? Also, after I downgraded I stayed at 1.1.1, could that be affecting it? I used that guide you guys posted when I jailbroke.. I actually just used the instructions from i.unlock.no ... pretty much exactly the same I just havent upgraded back to 1.1.2

God, I called 3 times, first lady said she was not good with I--Phone, and then put me on hold for a while, came back and said I can't use it as a prepaid phone. Second person told me that she had to transfer me to the iphone department, I said ok, automated system came up so I said ACTIVATION, and it started listing steps of connecting the phone to the computer.. I said Customer service, and it sent me back to att, where I got another woman who told me the only way to use the iphone as a prepaid phone was to fail the credit check. I said so if I have good credit, theres no way to get a prepaid phone, and she said yea.... What else can I do? This is getting pretty annoying

call AT&T , tell them that you need to activate your go card.
if asked tell them that you have an quad band unlocked nokia n95

i got pay as you go working with AT&T on my iPhone. When I first got my iPhone, I downgraded, jailbreaked whatever but i left it at 1.1.1, just in case in the future. I was getting no bars. But one night i got bored and installed oktoprep and upgraded to 1.1.2 and jailbreaked. I was amazed to find i was getting all bars. I got the pay as you go sim from AT&T. Just say to the AT&T guys that i have a phone at home and i need a pay as you go sim, dont tell them its an iphone. sim is free but i think you have to put $20 in the account when you buy it.

I wasnt sure if you needed gophone or pay as you go. If you needed gophone, sorry . Maybe this post will help someone else. After the software unlock comes, im gonna start using Rogers in Canada, but temporarily im using AT&T.

I already explained what the problem is to you... you need to HACKTIVATE your iphone, if keep trying to do it thru itunes u'll never be able to unlock it.

First unlock ur iphone, then worry about the pay as you go sim card, just dont tell them ur using it on an iphone, they begin to act stupid. Trust me ideal with customer service everyday. They are f**king dicks. Before itunes connects to the itunes store, unplugg ur phone. Read my post and follow it.

Why not try to insert your GO Phone Sim in another phone to ascertain the SmartChip (SIM) has been activated?

I successfully used a GO Phone SIM in my Iphone last xmas in NYC worked fine but data was expensive $2 to load a Google Map.

I already Hackivated my phone.. and jailbroke it. I didn't activate through Itunes. When I said I got all the way to confirming my 2 year plan and backed out, I had restored and tried thru iTunes to see what happened. I'm back to just a jailbroken, activated phone, but still no service. I tried putting the gophone sim in my other tmobile phone which has been unlocked, and it worked perfectly. To hadimirza, you said got it to work after updated to 1.1.2, which I will try shortly. For those of you who have it working, is your pay as you go sim setup for the "Pick your plan" plan, or just buy minutes and refill whenever you run out?
