Exclamation [anySIM] Would you like to see an opensource one ?

To put it finally into public discussion, would you liek to see a opensourced anySIM?
Sadly in the past multiple people felt like violate our work and made unsupported, broken bin patched versions so far. To secure at least a code level cleanness of our work, we would liek to opensource it on a public svn for anyone to participate. Would you like to see this step?

Well, I don't feel safe with anything which unlock my phone which doesn't come from Dev Team, and I can't code myself. The Elite Team mod really got me confused, and I haven't updated yet because no offical anySIM has been released.
Keep it closed, that's my opinion!

keep it closed guys!
we trust your work but the minute u go opensource many many differnt versions will come out (and needless to say many will be faulty) like we've seen many rush into releasing an unlock without properly testing it and many of the "noobs" will end up having ibricks!

bottom point .. keep it closed

most of the people don't understand anything about coding. so why release as open-source? People who wanna help can help and join the Dev-Team - they then get access to the source.

In a strategic view release of the source is also not recommended. Apple can fix the bugs in their baseband and bootloader even quicker if the source is available. Of course Apple reverses the binaries if there is no source but this just takes a lot longer. By additionally using runtime encryption (like "dont steal anysim" - dsas.kext). it would take just longer for Apple to reverse ;-) All in all: this is just a game. We and the Apple guys know this. Apple really likes (and needs) their early adopter/h*cker community. They could have fought back using lawyers but they don't want to because they better want to get a higher market penetration. And what could be the best help for them? volunteers for free and early adopters - like most of us are. This is the best promotion. And also the programming community. Thru the app-tab installer Apple finds out what the people really want to use on the iphone. Means Apple gets enuff of us. They shouldn't get the source too early...

As a compromise I would suggest to release the source just later (in 6months) - like Apple does with their Darwin kernel sources. It doesn't help completely but it delays the work of the other side...

Who in a perfect state of mind would want for a lot of "so called", wannabee coders messing around with AnySIM source code and spitting out allegedly all miraculous solutions?
Man, it's gonna be a disaster if AnySIM goes open-source.

My $0,02 though

I would like to see the source code but I voted NO. As others have already stated that it will create a lot more confusions and will result in more bricks. I think I won't understand much of the code anyway.

I'm a bit torn up on this. If the guys at the Elite team reversed enough of AnySim to figure out how it was unlocking the iPhone and release a patched version for firmware 1.2 (which admittedly may have caused issues for some people), what makes you think that Apple has any trouble doing the same?

I imagine the baseband engineering team is used to working at a low enough level that the difference between somebody handing them a binary and saying "figure out how this unlocks the iPhone" and somebody handing them some source code and saying "figure out how this unlocks the iPhone" isn't a radically big difference.

Maybe this adds an extra day or two of work for them. I don't think this would signifcantly change the release lifecycle for firmware and baseband updates.

On the other hand, maybe I'm underestimating how much time that takes.

I'd love to see AnySim open sourced, but I don't want to make Apple's job of re-locking our iPhones easier than it already is. Maybe we shouldn't rush to demand the open-sourcing of AnySim...
