The latest release of the 1.1.2 jailbreak now includes activation (the bit that allows you to use the phone without the connect-to-iTunes screen even if you don't have an AT&T account), YouTube support, PowerPC support and, best of all, a statically compiled readline -- so you don't need that libreadline library installed as a separate piece. Does it fixes crashing phone.app and sms.app ?

It is compatible with the newest Bootloader?

If you phone is already on 1.1.1, unlocked, hacked activated and modded, can you simply install OktoPrep, then upgrade to 1.1.2 and then run the jailbreak.jar/windows.bat?

If you don't have to have a fresh 1.1.1 loaded, what happens to loaded apps, do they remain loaded and working or do they vanish?

Also, does this sort out the crashing phone and sms issue or do we still need to patch that?

we probably need to separet the forum a little more split the iphone sections in 2 the boot 3.9 and the new boot 4.6 it will make things easy to help and find.....

Jailbreaking and activation has nothing with the bootloader.

this moght be a dumb question but why does the download link not work?

Phone has already been upgraded from 1.0.2 (via the viginise\restore\jailbreak etc) method successfully.

Followed this section in the documentation :-
Step 3: Prepare your 1.1.1 device for the Update

1. Launch Installer.app

2. Scroll down to Tweaks (1.1.1)

3. Select OktoPrep

4. Click Install

However i get an error saying Error Firmware 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 is required to update to 1.1.2..

Any suggestions anyone ?

I can confirm in the settings it says my firmware is on 1.1.1

I just tried this update...didn't work. I'm on windows. I follow the procedure and when I try running the windows.bat file the cmd window comes up and then quickly closes. Nothing happens.

So if you have an unlocked 1.1.1. with anysim 1.1.1 do not try this method for upgrading to 1.1.2 and then jailbraking. It might not work for you if you are on windows.
