Hey, This is really my first build altogether(Although I have taken apart and put together plenty of macs and PCs), both Hack and PC-wise and I could use a little help whether or not this set up will work out. Basically the Components I am thinking of are as follow:
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-G31M-ESL2 (Is this mobo worth the low price?) CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz Video Card: EVGA 256P2N761DX GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB Memory: 4GB RAM DDR2 HDD: Either 2x500GB or 1TB And of course a DVD RW Any insight on my proposed rig would be great, as well as whether this guide would be the right way to go about this: Install Snow Leopard on Your Hackintosh PC, No Hacking Required - Hackintosh - Lifehacker Any help would be great, I am really looking forward to working on this machine and can't wait to share my progress(Photos and link to my blog coming) Thanks! P.S. I now know my power supply situation. Last edited by StrayHood201; 09-26-2009 at 09:56 PM. Reason: Figured out the Power Supply situation |

I decided to just save up a little more money and go en-route of Life Hacker's SL guide: http://lifehacker.com/5360150/instal...cking-required
I will still be posting my progress once I begin in a week or 2. Just a few questions regarding Life Hacker's rig, which consists of: Antec Sonata III 500 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard Intel Core 2 Quad 3.0GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory x 2 (for a total of 8GB) Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EADS 1TB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Pioneer CD/DVD Burner Black SATA Model 10/ 100/ 1000/ 2000Mbps PCI Copper Gigabit Network Adapter Now, I know the case, the RAM, and the HDD do not need to be exactly the same. However, I haven't heard anything about switching the CD/DVD and the Net Adapter with other brands. I have boxes full of extra CD/DVD burners and Net Adapters and just want to know if I can just use them instead to save a few $$$. I've also heard of others using other Intel Core 2 Quad CPU's successfully so i will also stick with the cheaper + lesser GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz instead of the more expensive Intel Core 2 Quad 3.0GHz LGA 775 95W. My other question is regarding the EP45UD3P Snow Leopard install package. Is it necessary to use the GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB Vid card? or can I go with the EVGA 256P2N761DX GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB I already have since it has dual DVI input already? Sorry if my questions are annoying to some, I am just very interested in OSx86 and would love to be a regular contributor in the future. I plan to work on several different builds after this first one and helping others if all goes well. Any projects will be documented w/photos and possibly video on this forum as well as my blog. Thanks to any and all that respond, -Stray Last edited by StrayHood201; 09-26-2009 at 09:53 PM. Reason: Forgot my questions |
