Is vanilla 10.5 (Leopard) only and not 10.6 (Snow Leopard)?

Oh, sorry to be a noob lol. Obviously I'm just now learning Mac terminology.
Having the vanilla kernel automatically supported by the hardware configuration removes the dependency for a Hackintosh user to acquire a modified distro of OS X, right? If this is the case, this is useful for updating OS X with downloads from apple that modify your kernel and threaten screwing up your distro. |

Well all distros use Vanilla kernel by default, they add patched distros for AMD system or others unsupported systems by Apple, like Pentium D, Dual Core, etc.
All of them can update but have to patch the kernel all the time but vanilla users
