Fantastic forum! I am glad I stumbled upon this place... I've begun my resarch and am going to have a lot of money to work with. From what I've gathered so far I can basically buy whatever I want with the exception of the motherboard. I just want to clarify that before I start anymore I know I've got ALOT of reading to do.

Default Best Mini ATX Quad Core or I7 build?

Hello,

Looking to put together a quad core hackintosh either single intel quad or i7 chip on a Mini ATX mobo. For the live of me I cannot find anyone documenting an easy install and configuration of a Mini Atx setup that works without major aggravation. I would like to use at least 4 gigs of ram, with an option to 8 if possible. Internal video would make it easier, but I am willing to get a video card as well.

Looked at some options one Tiger Direct and Newegg, but have not settled on anything.

Any help would be appreciated

Lightbulb What do u think about this config?

Hi everybody!

I'm thinking in buy a new computer and make a hackint0sh

What do you think about this (cheap) configuration:

ASUS P5KPL/CM SK775 DDR2 PCX micro-atx
Intel Core DUO E2220 SK775 800 MHz 1MB dual core
2 GB DDR2 1066 kingston hyperx cl5
250 GB SATA2 Seagate 7200 8mb
Samsung DVD SH-SH223 LS 22X SATA

or in a mini-barebone:

ASUS P Series P3-P5G31
Intel Core DUO E2220 SK775 800 MHz 1MB dual core
2 GB DDR2 1066 kingston hyperx cl5
250 GB SATA2 Seagate 7200 8mb
Samsung DVD SH-SH223 LS 22X SATA

Do you think I can install any hackintosh distribution (ideneb, etc) in one of this machines... and OS-X can work?

Thank you very much

Jan Su

I'm considering trying a Hackintosh setup on my PC. The sole function of this unit is ASIO audio production. I'm about 90% satisfied with the Vista-64 setup, but most users on my DAW software forum tell me I'd be happier with a Mac so here I am. I'm wanting to know if I can run a Mac OS on this unit wihtout changing any of my hardware.

The specs on the rig:

Intel E6850
ATI x1650Pro HDMI
Audigy2 ZS Platinum
4x 2Gb G. Skill DDR2-800
Maxtor 160Gb SATA 150 HDD
ECS G33T-M2

I also use a Sharp Aquos 37" LCD for a primary display. I mention this because there are some prominent issues with various GPUs for PC that have overscan problems with HDMI on displays over xx". I've noticed these are more prominent with nVidia, but there are still some issues with ATI cards as well. Are there similar issues with Mac OSes?

I can get the model of the board but I'm not using the unit right now. Later tonight I can edit/update this posting with the model number if it's nessicary.

Another question is, the reason I'm using 64-bit OS is cause there's an external audio editor I use outside the DAW, (for stream recordings), that eats RAM at a rate of up to 98Mb/min and the DAW itself usues up to 3Gb, (depending on what I've got going on at any given time), so are Mac OSes bound to this address limitation that is part of 32-bit PC OSes?

Now, I'm not a hard-line PC guy at all. I'm familiar with Linux distros and rather comfortable with Slackware and the command line so those things won't scare me off. Lemme know what yall think.

Thanks from a Mac-noob
