Hey guys,

I'm new to this whole OSX86 thing, but I have some experience building computers. I thought this would be a breeze from what I've heard over the net, but the more things I read the more confused I get. I want an i7 build which is as stable as possible and as easy to get working as possible. Is this hardware config OK? If so, is there a tutorial you can link me to that will work with these components?

Mobo Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R
Proc Core i7 920
Memory Corsair XMS3 3x2 (6GB)
HDD Hitachi Deskstar 1TB x 2
Optical LG GH22LS50 Lightscribe
Graphics Asus EAH4870 DK 1GB

Thanks guys.

Default some questions on memory & raid before pulling the trigger on my list

long time mac guy - first time 'hackie'
I'm building a machine for final cut rendering - among other things.

these are the components I'm about to pull the trigger on

gigabyte x58 UD5
I7 920
evga 9800gtx video card
noctura cooler
corsair 750 hx (or tx) psu
coolermaster storm scout case (for portability)

I would like to overclock to 3.8 or higher
I want to install (or at least be able to install) 12gb of ram
I'd also possibly like to set up an HD raid

I have two questions

1) what mid price 12gb stick combos will work well OC'd on this board?

I was going to get two 6gb tri channel corsair kits - but on the gigabyte compatibility list it seems like all the 2gb x 6 approved pieces are dual channel - not triple channel, and reviewers who tried doing 12g corsair tri channel on the g-byte boards report problems. When you go to 12gb do you have to run dual channel sticks ?

re. raid. Is this board - or any of the gigabyte x58 series , set to control a raid array? One poster mentioned the UD3R as designed for this (the 'R' designation = raid? ). Is the UD5? I couldn't tell by the gigabyte page on the UD5.

Follow the guide in the Post #203, I think they support RAID, you can check those in gigabyte I think or google for more info, no idea about overclock but surely it will work too they are pretty expensive they should support those things keke, good luck

Default Successful Hackintosh

Hey all,

Just wanted to report on my progress.

I built my project into a G5 case. (probably the hardest part of the whole project)

Here are my specs:
EP45 UD3P motherboard
Quad Core 9550 2.83 Intel processor
8Gb Kingston HyperX DDR2 Ram
Gigabyte GTS 250 1GB graphics
10.5.6. Retail
Vista Home Premium
Dual booting using Chameleon 2 RC2

Couldn't have done it without 4 things:
1) Support and info from the community
2) Lots of reading and multiple re-installs
3) Lots of patience
4) Luck

So far everything seems to work ok except mirror doesn't work on the GTS 250. I have DVI, VGA and HDMI on my card - it probably has something to do with the HDMI out but I'll look into that another time.

I am wrapped!

Default Thoughts on Build

Just curious if someone would like to give me some feedback on my projected build. Would like to install using retail.

Below are two different motherboards I can't decide between. The video cards was chosen as I will need dual and horizontal support. Would eventually like to buy a second video card and link. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance as I am new to the osx86 but am an advanced user and not a first time pc builder.

Cheers
