Several months ago, I released an iPhone forensics manual and toolkit and restricted it to law enforcement only. With that, I mentioned that I wanted to keep it restricted for a while to give the good guys a head start on processing crimes involving iPhones. Amazingly, over 200 different law enforcement agencies around the world requested my manual and many have been actively using it to collect evidence against drug dealers, pedophiles, murderers, and in at least one case, a previously unknown terrorist. O'Reilly has recently given me the resources to turn the guide into a small book, scheduled for release around October 2008. This book caters to IT professionals, corporate compliance officers, private forensic investigators, and law enforcement personnel. The rough cuts edition is now available for those who would like to read the rough draft online. You can also pre-order the book.
NOTE: The book presently covers v1.0.2 - v1.1.4 of the iPhone firmware, but we plan on updating it, prior to print, to support v2.0 shortly. Much of the forensic detail is already compatible with the v2.0 firmware; it's just a matter of securing a proper jailbreak for new devices, which I'm sure will come soon.
