Default Another IPhone 3G in the rain...

Hi everyone,
I had my IPhone in my pocket during a heavy rain and little water came in through the SIM Tray. I recognized this only after my Phone told me "No SIM". I removed the tray and let it dry.
So far so good, now everything works perfectely fine except that it seems to get no reception anymore .

Whenever I put any SIM inside ( I tried different SIMs in case the SIM might be defect ) the phone does recognize whether a SIM in inserted or not, it just does not pick up any signal...

Do I need to replace the whole mother board or could it be only a connector between mother board and antenna ???

Any hints or comments very very much appreciated, thanks !!!

You 'let it dry'? How?

When a phone gets wet you should not turn it on, if possible remove the battery (not possible with the iPhone) and keep in a warm, dry place for at least 3 days before turning on.

If you didn't, the chances are you have blown something on the M/B. Sorry.

Well, I guess you are right... There is definitely something blown here ... But it must have happened even before I removed the SIM card as the error was already present...

I let it dry over night but did leave it switched on.

I should have switched the phone off imediately but I was not aware that the IPhone is that sensitive.

Anyway, to replace the MB will be the only solution to that prob, but for that price I could also get a new phone I suppose.

At least it can still be used as IPod touch

You may not be that bad. If the iphone is working except the SIM Slot it is likely you have just a small crystalization of the minerials in the water across 2 of the SIM connectors inside.

If you can get a small hard bristle paint brush or customise something you can slide it down the SIM hole and move it around to break that up. DO NOT USE WIRE BRUSH...

There is nothing your going to damage down there unless the brush is to wide or metal bristle.

Something to try and good chance you will get it back. Let me know if this works for you. PM if you need more info. Thanks.

I also double in electronic component and circuit board repair.

Thanks.

Hi debug,
Thank you very much for that tip !!! As I have already opened my IPhone a couple of times, I will just open it and try to clean the SIM connectors as you suggested...

Will be back with more info shortly...
