Hey everybody,
Its a sad day for me. ![]() My week old 3g fell and the screen is shattered.I went down to the service provider (Im in india) and they have this book of pictures to match with the customers phone to tell them if the damage is covered or not In this case it isnt.I have a 2g which has a dead strip.(which is covered under warranty but apple never launched 2g in india it was unlocked and jailbroken.so they wont fix it) anyway i was wondering if i could maybe put in the 2g screen into the 3g and claim a replacement. My question is, will it fit? In India apple doesnt have a functioning repair unit, they just replace stuff. So even if any internal warranty seal is broken they wouldn't really know. Hope someone can help me :S thanx! chaitanya. |

Hey!
Nice to see a fellow Indian here! Anyway, yes Physical damage isnt covered by warranty. Quite obviously.. heh.. Is the LCD fine, and only the glass is shattered? You can get a replacement here > http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2...ry_Code=IPHONE |

Although I've never tried, the 2G glass will probably fit the 3G phone. However, it is completely insane to try and test that theory. It is EXTREMELY difficult to seperate the glass from the touch in both the 2G and 3G phones. I've heard that boiling the 2G display (the LCD, touch and glass are tightly glued together) will allow you to easily seperate the glass but destroy the LCD and touch. The 3G touch and glass are fused together but the LCD is a seperate piece.
If you want to try to fix the glass yourself, get the 3G touch and glass replacement part. The is your best (and really only viable) option. By the way, although the 2G glass may fit the 3G phone, the sensors are in different places, so your 3G phone's proximity, light sensors won't work properly with a 2G glass. To answer Tazeen, that is why it is so expensive to repair your 2G display. Even though it is only the glass that's broken, you need to replace the entire display. Besides, the 3G touch panel doesn't have the controller, its on the board itself. At this point, it's useless. Sorry |
