The v1 like i mentioned in the first post is computer dependent and doesn't require a special iPhone Native Software to record/capture the codes from the remotes.

The v2 won't be and will use a dongle connected to the Dock connector with a Native Capture Software.

Still waiting for the parts i ordered.

Default omg

I do not have any experience with programming or designing, however I would love to contribute to this project in any way possible. Are the developers accepting donations for their work? What about in-development testing? Please anything i can do to help this project I will.

I will put a paypal link or something similar, but i'm just too lazy (my friend helping me to set it up as well)

But, if you like, you can donate to a charity organization of your choice.

Uuhh ?

The prototypes are working since the first post in this thread.

I just don't have too much time this month to work on the software.
If you guys want to help to make the app send me a PM.

i totally support this project, I actually thought that it would be nice to have a remote control on the iphone, though I surerly don't have the hability to develop one..

I too would like to voice interest in BUYING a pre-assembled one of these of the 2nd version with the software. I think this is a creation that is well deserved to be paid for.

PS. XianLi, I would be able to point you to a direction for mass production if you may want that to happen. =P

Hi guys!
YOu can't even imagine how HAPPY I am that I've found this thread!
I'm simply getting crazy with this topic since a week, exactly since I read this post:

IPOD as remote

If an IPOD can control a device using that "dongle", it means that ANY device with an audio output can!

This means even a cellphone... i.e a programmable device with GSM capabilities!

This means that I could set up a system capable of programming my DVD recorder from the opposite side of the world, just with a single SMS!

I found several info around, about this topic:
Info about remotes
Linux Infrared Remote Control - control your PC using your remote
Build IR receiver for LIRC
Another IR recevier for LIRC
IR transmitter from LIRC pages
The simplest and cheapest method to sample your IR remote!!
C++ project and Sound-IR dongle reverse engineering
Infrared 38 KHz transmitter IC
Griffin patent is freely available online! (free registration requred)

IR Remote Control Modulation Detector
Infrared circuit WIKI
Simple IR Remote Extender
Another IR extender
... and another

Download PRONTO codes from Remote Central
Download remotes codes from LIRC site

What we'll attach to our phones:

Ok, thats' enough for links...

Now lets' come to my tests.
I did test using an IR receiver extracted from an old VCR, but also using a simple IR emitter LED. Yes, just connect an IR LED to your soundcard, start sampling (I used 76000 or higher frequency) and you'll see your remote's code!

But I obtained weird results. I expected a 38 KHz carrier which starts and stops repeteadly. Nope. I got this:

Instead, this is what I got with the integrated IR receiver:

ZOOM IN:

In no case I obtained what I expected, i.e. the 38 KHz carrier. Anyway it looks like I obtained the actual remote code. But now, how to "play" it? Just sending it to an IR LED connected to audio output does not work (of course), so I guess I need an IR transmitter at 38 KHz. But I still can't understand which one is the best, simplest and cheapest.

Ok, waiting for comments...
