Hi there,
i wonder if this is a cheap variant to get av out or if this is a ripoff. Link from german eBay: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...m=140210654551 Any opinions ?! Greetings, Ender |

I found the "apple" branded AV kit with dock and remote at walmart. For some reason, its marked at a whopping $111 O_O. I'll upload a pic of it on display later.
Is that right. I thought it would be cheaper. As far as getting the AV to work. I think it would be easier to have an app fool the phone into thinking that a cable is the apple av ID'd cable, to tell the phone to switch the video on. |

i forked up the money for a apple composite AV cable 49$ so dont know what cable the others are talking about.
But it dont work. Getting the Orignal apple cable to work with hacked phones is hard enoughf forget trying to make one. In fact this post is what made me decide to just pay apple. Yet it wont work which sucks. part number on box is mb129ll/a |

I don't see what the problem is? I have a jailbroken iPhone 1.1.3 and have no problem outputting video from it, using the iPod Universal Dock and $3 AV-cable from a 3rd party manufacturer (with the 4-pin 3.5mm plug) connected to the dock.

I used the iPod Universal Dock and an ordinary 3rd party iPod AV-cable with 3.5mm plug (more exactly I used the AV-cable at http://www.ridax.se if you go to the "standard accessory" page).
You know that it will only output video when you watch photos or video content (YouTube or video files) and not the menu system? Last edited by ridax; 03-26-2008 at 10:02 AM. |

I have access to all three devices. I also have:
iPod PHOTO dock (not universal - it was the first they made - it has S-Video out, but no remote) Apple's official new composite/usb cable. 3rd Party 5.5G and lower compatible (dock connector) video accessory. Here are my results: The iPod PHOTO dock doesn't work out of the box with any of the iPods/iPhone I used. All 3 devices tell me to "Please Connect Video Accessory." HOWEVER, if I FIRST plug the official cable into the iPods (Nano and Classic 160) and start the movie, I can unplug the cable, place the iPod in the old-school dock, and I get video out, no problem. I get the exact same result with the old-fashioned portable video player I have that takes a 5.5G and below connector. So, apparently, the iPods, at least, only check for the new cable when you first start a movie. If I then click MENU and go back out and into another (or even the same) movie, I have to repeat the procedure of plugging/unplugging the official cable. The iPHONE, on the other hand, only works if I keep the official cable plugged in. It stops playing immediately if I unplug the official cable. I still think it's highly unlikely that there is a "chip" in these as many have suggested. The very fact that you CAN use both the iPhone and the new iPods on the older (pre-2007) Universal Dock, suggests they're just checking for something that the old Universal dock already had. It seems very unlikely to me that they would put the "chip" in that dock, several years ago, just in anticipation that it would be needed in 2007. I really hope we find the simple solution. Mostly because I already have not only a dock that no longer works, but also a full video unit that no longer works (without the trick, and not at all with the iPhone.) Also, interesting note: The S-Video connector on the PHOTO Dock DID indeed work with the new iPods. I thought that was interesting as Apple no longer sells any products with S-Video for the iPods. Anyway, KEEP LOOKING FOR THAT RESISTOR! Please! |
