I tried it, and it turns out it does not allow tethering a PowerPc Mac at all.

I recommend PDANet, simple, fast, free. Works on jailbroken but Locked phones too.

Have you fed this back to Dev Team?

I've tested on Mac OSX 10.6.1, Vista and XP...

Also, how can you confirm that the problem is with the binary patch and not the powerpc?

no problem with the patch,

tethering is an Apple feature that was implemented on Intel Mac only, not a PowerPC compatible feature..

Using the musclehackcommcenter, I cannot tether my powerPC mac on System 10.4.11. I can tether my intel mac on System 10.5.8..

otoh, PDANet works on both powerPC and intel Macs

tangent.. Pwnage Tool does work on both macs, its just suuuper slowww to build the ipsw on the powerPC, about 30 minutes, vs less than 10minutes on intelMac.. also blackra1n does not work on powerPC mac

intel mac is required for apple style tethering.. regardless whether you use the musclehackcommcenter or not

Apple tethering code works by making the iPhone to "expose" a simulated ethernet adapter thru the USB port. For the host (Mac/Windows), the iPhone is treated as an external ethernet adapter, connected thru the USB port.

The host (Mac / Windows) driver for this "ethernet device" is provided with iTunes. The reason for it not working with PowerPC Macs is that there are no drivers for that ethernet adapter for it.

The CommCenter patch, by MuscleNerd et al., is very simple and clean: the only thing it does is to ignore the signature check for the APN settings in the carrier bundle, a "security feature" introduced in 3.1.
