Just heard of one instance that the circumstances on my situation resulted in someone bricking their phone. Anyone know if this would work if a restore using 1.0.2 followed by the upgrade(using that term loosely) would work better?

Hi !
I know that the downgrading procedure seems to be on its way right now, so maybe my questions are moot until i get my iPhone on wednesday next week... My iPhone has been bought 5 days ago so i *hope* it has 1.02 FW. If it is so, do you feel it should be safe to deactivate it and jailbreak it ? The only thing causing ( maybe permanent damage ) is to flash the baseband wich is not done by deactivation / jailbreaking / using 3'rd party apps ( well exept anysim of course ), right ? So i could at least have a kind of "ipod touch with NES emu" until things clear up... Would you agree ( i know there are no guarantees ) ? Another question: Would it make sense to do a complete baseband backup before doing anything unlock-wise ? ( or is it dony by anysim anyways, couldn't find a hint. As someone stated before, the baseband seems to carry a lot of phone-individual data ( calibration, personalization, etc. ). Am i confusing things ( i would think that nordumper saves those critical data or is that yet another data space then the baseband, if so: does anything of what i said make sense ) ? Baseline is: How can i backup as much as possible with wich tools and do you think its a good idea :-) Greetings, Ender ( visiting NYC to buy an iPhone even if my girl friend thinks its to visit her sister, *ggg* ) Last edited by enderffx; 09-30-2007 at 10:47 AM. |

As long as you don't accidentally pull in the 1.1.1 software when you jailbreak+activate, it is fine to do that. Same warning if you end up having to do a full restore one day...make sure you don't pull in the 1.1.1 software during that restore.
A NOR dump is always a good idea. Nobody knows whether the calibration data itself is in there, but sure there's other stuff in there that would be good to backup. |

Hi again, hmm... even if i would accidently upload 1.1.1. it shouldn't end up as an iBrick as long as i did not modify the baseband before ( unlocked ), right ?? The main isea is that i would refrain from modding the baseband, using it as a super-iTouch as long as we all can be sure there is a way of taking back the baseband modification if push comes to shove. ( What if i would do a nordump, mod the baseband and then flash back the nordump, would'nt this be impossible to detect, so i could upgrade save to 1.1.1 if i decide to become an apple fanboy and go with at&t ?! ) Greetings & thanks, Nils |

lurker here....
So, i used AnySim to unlock my iphone for the hell of it, even though i have ATT. I accidentally upgraded to the new firmware. I have restored to 1.02 firmware but no phone functionality works with my ATT sim. Now my question is, (and i ask this cuz i simply cannot understand all this baseband talk), what do i do to get the phone back into OUT OF BOX state, where i can have a virgin phone once again? If this has not yet been done, please reply with that too. Thanks all.
