This works for T-Mobile $5.99/mo plan! Thanks to syasses

I just confirmed it and it is not that slow either!

123.1kbps using iphonenetworktest.com

Google Maps - Yes
Safari - Yes
Weather - Yes
Stocks - Yes
Mail - Yes
Youtube - Yes (slow)

First, set your APN to wap.voicestream.com in Settings/General/Network/EDGE/

Then, Cut and paste this code and save it as proxy.pac (make sure that it is NOT proxy.pac.txt)

Code:
function FindProxyForURL(url, host)
{
if (isInNet(myIpAddress(), "10.0.0.0", "255.0.0.0"))
return "PROXY 216.155.165.50:8080";
else
return "DIRECT";
}
and then make the same changes to the preferences.plist file mentioned in the first post. the changes are on line 352 of the preferences.plist file.

now my iPhone is complete

Oh hey H.B

I am not sure if you noticed but the connection does not stay up like it does with Edge. If your not using the connection it drops your IP (I am guessing a quick lease time) so it won't keep charging you when your not using it. But grabs another IP when you open internet or the other web apps.

But I think that problem is mostly with the voice mail on Cingular.

Yeah you can thank Qtel for that one. But you should be able to use the web gmail it works pretty quick. No graphics just your inbox. go to gmail.com/app then instead of downloading look for the web link to your mailbox, then bookmark it.

I have the pop mail on my iphone working fine right now on the 5.99 plan without any proxy settings. Will it continue to work (so I don't have to bother navigating to the gmail website) after I apply your method?

Also, can you dumb down the instructions a little bit? Is there a particular program I should get through installer.app that will let me alter files on the iphone?

Hey syasses,

Thanks for all this advice

I checked the Qtel site, it's pretty expensive:

1 MB = $2.81

So make sure you don't download torrents yet on your iPhone :p
