My experience with Wi-Fi issues, sorry for the bad use of english.
I experienced Wi-Fi problems since I updated iTunes to the last version (8.1) and sincronized my iPhone (my iPhone was in 2.2.1 restored with an original firm and jailbreaked and activated with quickpwn, before was an 1.1.2 OTB unlocked with ZIphone, then 2.0, 2.1, etc... with pwngage, quickpwn.....)
Trying to solve wi-fi issues (don't connect, less bars in wifi signals, discover networks but immediatly losses them...) I downgraded to 1.1.4, then KiPhone to downgrade baseband, iLiberty to activate and then upgrade to 2.2.1, quickpwn, bootneuter--hangs!, and the same behaviour with wifi
Well, I want to post what I experienced yesterday...
I have read a lot of posts where people says that putting th iphone in the fridge solves wifi issues for a while, I have read also that when you put a new firmware on the phone (DFU mode) you can use wifi for a while also...
One month ago I read something in a spanish page that made me laugh a lot, a guy installed a firmware while the phone was over a bag with ice cubes...!, yes I thought that was a silly thing but yesterday tired of testing a lot of downgradings, firmwares, bootloaders, basebands.. I decided to try it...
I took a cold blue gel bag (normally those that you put over an an articulation when it hurts) and I put the iPhone over and restored (DFU) a 2.2.1 firmware, then quickpwn and ...
Voilá... I saw all the wifis with full coverage bars, I tried to connect to the most difficult one (enterprise WPA2 certificate) and I connected immediatly without problems. I was able to use cydia and download a lot of things, openSSH, sbsettings, bootneuter, gpsPhone... a lot of megabytes.
Then the coverage bars began to drop (the phone was still over the ice) and began to fail, one time the phone rebooted when I was trying to connect again to the wifi that was lost... something that never happened to my phone (never rebooted, never grey wifi)
Well. My thesis:
I'm sure that the wifi issues are related to temperature but the problems begin to appear after an iTunes update.
I think that the iPhone is able to measure temperature (I dont't know if the sensor is in the main board or is integrated in the wifi chip).
I think also that the phone stores temperature measured values, so it has a "history" of temperatures.
The phone may have a safety procedure that reboots the phone when thinks that something related with temperature is going wrong
When a new firmware is restored and maybe the phone does not have a "history" works better since is able to measure values and then the wifi issues return
When a new firmware is restored, the phone does not have a history of measured values and the temperature is very low (ice) the phone works much more better and longer, but finally the wifi issues return and maybe crashes and reboots may occur.
My own diagnostic:
The temperature sensor is not working well (the wifi chip works well because when it works the download times are very good), maybe is measuring 15 or 20 ºC more... that could be a explanation for all this behaviour.
If the software is doing something with the measured values and we are able to override this check or to adjust the measured values maybe we can solve the problem
But this is only my opinion, please think about it and feel free to comment about it
thanks
