Progress report Ive given up on preventing the carier bundle from loading. Let the dam thing load.
The problem seems to be that the iphone has diffirent power states. That is somehow controled by the CPU Temps. So when its cold it lets the wifi work. I now have a script runing to debug at the kernel level every 30 seconds. It looks something like dmesg grep Apple* Here is a sample of my log. I cant say because I havent been able to get it to work. Or rather I am leaving the bundle there and trying to de-bug.
The day I give up and want it to work. I have to let itunes do a DFU restore. Then a winpwn and a quickpwn. But this means dedicating at least 2 days to re-load all my s/w and set it up the way I want. Strugling while the carier bundle may slip in again. At least now I have all my apps. And the phone works just no wifi. Today fooling arround with one of the documented fixes using iliberty I was able to get the No wifi / Greyed out wifi. Ran winpawn but didnt actually resotre the file it created. This brought my wifi back. For a minute there I was pretty sure I had lost it for good. No carier setings file wont mess with it. And if it does you just delete your wifi.plist files the os will re-create them clean. The carier throwing some switch on their servers which gets the edge logo on your phone still messes it up though. They have a free edge service which allows you to access only their web site. This totally screws everything. But it can be turned off. They say they dont turn it on. If the systems detects a Edge capeable phone it downloads the settings. Though when they turn it off. At their end the phone also knows they have turned it off and its back to business. This is a software issue for sure. Need to try zipphone. Its allways balied me out in the past. Which is the latest version 3.0 or 2.0 ? Ps: Cant wait for the Nokia N800. This I can get out of this complete joke of a situation. Last edited by wnjunkie; 01-17-2009 at 12:30 AM. |

When you have a spining wifi logo this is what is basically going on

amazing post
I hope you find the solution > Next step is to see how power modes are set. I think you mentioned your phone gets hot? If thats true, the next step for me would be to strip it of every single add on application, find out if it runs cool then, if I read you right, a cool phone will keep wifi from turning off.. yes? |

Man Im about to pull the plug on this 20 days down the toilet. Big respect to the Dev team for the shit load of work they must have put into their work.
I wish they would play a more active role on this forum though. Im pretty sure there are a shit load of guys trying to get swifix onto their phones and having no luck and for all you know the dev team has allready included it into the pawnage tools. The Iphone IP stack sucks donkey doo. There are two aspects to my wifi the first was the stack. To figure that one out I had to get a Router that actually runs an OS you get a few that are nothing buy Linux boxes. But I prefered to use my Windows machine. The stack is so bad. That it crashes out my PC. It wont take DHCP IPs. And the apple guys have this as a documented problem. It gets a 169 IP each time. This is with Macs with a PC its worse. But at least by using my PC as a Router each time it crashes my IP stack I know whats going on. And I did have to resort to using a static IP. Im using windows XP with ICS. The Iphone is on static 192.168.0.2 router and DNS is 192.168.0.1 and my cable modem is the shared conection. When your trouble shooting you need total control over your router to know exactlly whats going on. Im using wep. As Cydia has a note about how the Iphone stack will not suport conections without security. My password is 10 digits numeric. THe long and short of it is that the Iphone crappy stack accounts for 50% of the conection problems. The other 50% are probably a combination of software and hardware faults. I think half the guys having issues with wifi have a few things in common. a. They all have dropped their phone at some time or the other. b. They work in dirty and dusty environments and to make it worse have probably passed a pin thru their speaker / Mic area. c. They have used the shit outa their wifi. Making things worse by turning off auto sleep leaving wifi runing for hours. Anyway Im happy. I got all my apps back on. Im doing the cracked app stuff and will now just load all my apps thru itunes. Problem s/w. Id have to say bootnuter. 3 times Ive tried downloading it and each time it fails. Half way thru and instantlly my wifi starts acting up. My sugestion to fixing this is a. Make sure its not your router. How ? Well the best bet is use a router that worked in the past. Or on which another wifi works. b. Keep a close eye on the wifi and networking plist files. If they get corupted you should delete or rename them and they should be re-created. Clean. c. Make sure you have a wifi address. I saw the greayed out stuff once. But runing winpawn half way sorted that out. d. If nothing works get a ihone open kit off ebay for 10$ and try to open up the iphone to clean it out. e. Keep an eye on the kernel debug msgs like I was doing to figure out what is going on with the stack. f. Try the freezer trick. It helps. Start with 1 minute, 2 minute etc. More than 5 and the phone just wont boot up. Im sure this does some nasty damage to your phone and battrey. Not to mention making your buttons britlle as hell. Along the way I found a lot of serious stuff nobody talks about. Like even after doing a Wipe / Restore as per Apples document. I found that all my hacked programes where still on the phone in a hiden directory. Apple is fighting back. Big time. Im now going to replace that file that allows you to run hacked apps and see if I loose my wifi again. Im now quiting while Im ahead. |

I did the restore got my wifi working and went on to install all the apps. I have had my wifi fail on me at least two times. As soon as I get to bootnuter. Today again it failed after SMBprefs and Bootnuter. Since I had installed ssl and ssh I got the bootnuter app from atp and did the dpkg -i route. It installed but did not show up in SB then on the third reboot it did. WHen I run it it crashed 3 times in a row. Then finally on the 4th try it went thru as in it says detecting what we have. It updated the setting and hung. Now I have a new problem. You know the Applications link in the root well it points to a directory called /private/var/stash/Applications.9BUBhx which is empty. Bellow that I have another directory which is called /private/var/stash/Applications.KJwGc1 which is actually full off applications. My plan is to delete the /Applications link and create a new one pointing to the real applications folder. 2nd question has anybody actually got bootnuter runing on a 2.2 Firmware ? With itunes 8.x Ive got most of the Cydia apps I want so Im not going to try and restore again to re-enable wifi. WIll just live with it like this till better brains figure out whats going on. Cause something is for sure. I removed SMBPrefs & Mxtube but the bigboss icon still remains it does nothing when I click on it though. I get a screen saying initlizing services and it exits. A few times when I boot up wifi connects and then drops. As if another process is starting which stops it. After a Fresh restore and wifi is working it doesnt matter if its hot or cold it holds the connection rock solid. Temps wise mine is the same as any other i.e. it gets warm after 2-3 hours of use. Update: I recreated the link. Pointing applications to the right folder. But after a reboot its back again pointing to the dummy folder. Who uses that shortcut /Applications ? Who could be messing with it ? And why ? Last edited by wnjunkie; 01-19-2009 at 09:30 PM. |

I have the same problem here. The iPhone doesn't find the networks anymore after upgrading from 1.02 to 2.2 firmware.
