do you think we guys having this problem have not tried DFU restoring at least 1000 times by now ?

It seems people here are happy to spend 5 minutes flaping their lips vs 5 minutes actually providing the help requested.
My point is Im a little bit tired of DFU restoring my stuff. Allmost every week. Id also like to be able to use itunes for my apps and music without worrying about how its going to bring down my wif again.
And even if I dont use I tunes my service provider somehow manages to crash my wifi without my consent.
And if you do a search you will find others are having similar issues with edge on their phones

i.e. a copy of the files Im asking for from a working hand set.

One thing is for sure.
Apple knows where you are and it knows if your runing hacked apps or not. I have found files that clearlly log this.
Also the application responsoble for telling apple what your up to seems to have something to do with locationd

When I run locationd I get this error
Try runing it on working wifi phone and not working wifi phone and see the difference.

I suspect when latest itunes detects a hacked phone it does something. Which prevents the necessary files required for wi/fi from runing.
I will post the file where I can show this is hapening.
You dont even have to run itunes for this to happen just plug in.

For example kill configd and restart it with the -v switch. It will say failed because phone is in lockdown.
Its like there are now diffirent levels of lockdown. One which prevents wifi from runing.

My guess is a hardware fault on your phone.

wnjunkie reminded me of a simple way to check for it: is your phone hotter than usual? Does this WiFi issue happens for how long after your phone was turned on, provided you left it off (and I mean powered off, not just with screen off) for a couple hours to let it chill?

If your phone is hotter, or if this WiFi issue happens after a while, then yes, it is a hardware issue.

I faced the same problem as you, Wi-fi is not working after the quickpwn my iphone 3g. tried restoring it to base firmware but no luck. would you be able to post the procedure to make wi-fi work again as you have succesfuly done it?

Freezing is not the answer. I only said it was one of the things I tried. Please dont speak for me.

It is a combination off apple + your carrier messing with you.
look in /private/var/root/Library/Caches/Locationd/
Just one example. Why is locationd so interested in my wifi.
I have found files in other place with text which actually says disable wifi. ? Who put it there ?

Yesterday after 2 days of working with wi-fi no issues I said lets upgrade from itunes 7.7 to 8.0 not 8.2
And within minutes my wi-fi was not working again.

Luckily I had loaded all cydia apps before. SO I could trouble shoot. Went into carrier bundles and sure enough Airtell was there.
So I deleted Airtell still no wifi. Then I deleted all the 405x or numbers which where showing up as dead links. Instantlly wifi kicked in again. But it only lasted for 10 seconds.

Apple or the carriers are messing back with the hacking community. And nobody has woken up to it yet is the only thing I can say.

Yes my phone would heat up. But I also found an intresting text in one of the kernel files. Your phone is too hot to use.
So they are monitoring temps and if it gets to hot they will shut it down.

We need one of the iphone wizards who have nothing much to crack anymore with everything being cracked to apply their brilliant minds to this problem. Maybe an app which will check all the files, permissions, and links to make sure wifi software bit is all setup. Bigboss are you hearing me ?

Now I will prove my theory again by doing the winpawn, then DFU to 2.2 and quick pwn.
One thing is for sure dont mess with itunes above 7.7 if your having this issue.

Im also trying to get my hands on a marvel Wi-Fi IC.
So I can change it and prove the hardware is not an issue point.
But I feel by then enoughf people will make a noise about this wifi issue to have it fixed. Either by apple or the Dev team.

Ps: If you do freze your phone. Then please do not touch any buttons or the dock. It will turn to dust. Some commonsense here please.
I also plan to strip my phone and check for dirt / loose contacts. But I may also just do my fix and stick with itunes 7.7 till somebody take this forward. And finds the real culprit.
BTW my phone is a week 50 has all the hacks applied (windows based from zip phone to pawn). The problem is not with quickpawn or with zipphone though I will admit I never had the wifi grayed out problem ever.
The problem is apple and the carier are getting smarter and smarter with each firmware and itunes release or they are activating backdoors they had built in a long time ago.
