ROFL I did this test on a bunch of 1st gen iPhones.

Put your iPhone on Airplane mode.
Go to WiFi. Enable it.
Connect to your favorite network.

Wasn't Airplane mode supposed to disallow any communications? If I try to start Bluetooth, it says it will turn Airplane mode off (as expected).

Is it a known "feature" I have missed recently?

Edit: Tested on an old 1.1.3 iPhone, it indeed warns Airplane mode will be turned off.

Switching Wi-Fi on in flight mode works on my hacktivated 2G iPhone running 2.1 and my official unlocked 3G - no warnings.
On my 1.1.4 iPhone I get the mentioned message "Enabling WiFi will switch flight mode off", and so it does.

I saw once on a guided tour that there is this option. Airplane Mode...
If you are flighting in a plane that offers wi-fi service, just turn the wi-fi connection on (with Airplane mode on as well) that it will connect.
It said that the wi-fi does not interfere over the plane signals...
