Default Someone working to prevent apple auto updates?

Hi,

Couldn't seem to find this topic anywhere.

AS most people know by now, apple can apparently auto update iPhones over the network:

http://www.macdailynews.com/index.ph..._over_network/

so if that is the case obviously those that have unlocked the iPhone won't be keen for this auto update - cos it could kill the turbosim hack.

Has anyone worked out a hack to prevent auto updates? If not I think this is the next step!

ps also, for those interested Apple US now has refurb iPhones for sale - save $100 USD.

If you arent on their network, they can do sweet f**k all to your phone.

FYI, I don't have that button and i've never connected to any GSM network, only my personal WiFi network at home.

There is no confirmation of over-the-air updates what so ever.
Personally, I don't think Apple will update anything without the user consent.
All updates are opt-in historically.
For iPhone or other Apple products.
The Send To Web Gallery is related to your .Mac account and has nothing to do with a "magic" update without your consent.

Updating the baseband firmware Over The Air would be Darwin award material anyway

Just think before installing a shiny new update coming from iTunes and you should be safe

I think you're right. A friend of mine, in Switzerland, has no GSM access and has the button. But he's using 1.0.1 and has a .Mac account. How could Apple do auto updates on Edge? Some operator accounts don't have unlimited data. So they can't force an update without user consent. That's my opinion.

I don't think there are OTA updates either, but every iPhone user has/should have an unlimited data plan, at least officially speaking.

Now I have a TurboSIM working iPhone.
But when I updated to 1.0.1 and saw the button for the first time I didn't have Edge.
