aPpLe_IpHoNe,
I wouldn't bother activating through AT&T. There are now plenty of tools in this site that will allow you to activate without using AT&T...they are faster and less of a pain. I picked up my iPod in Laredo a few weeks back, drove back to Monterrey, activated it using DVD Jon's method and now have it up and running as a PDA, iPod, Wi-Fi device, etc. To answer your question, I'm not sure if you can activate it from Mexico or not...you might have to be physically present in the US for it register on AT&Ts network for the activation process to complete (maybe someone else here can answer this for you). I'm not sure if anyone can really say if your AT&T iPhone will be the same model as Telcel's version (assuming Telcel will be the carrier in Mexico). I'm really hoping that someone gets it unlocked before they are available here. I mean, where's the fun in having a phone that everyone else has Cheers, Barry |

Just buy the iphone without any AT&T activation. All you need to do then is this: (follow the link, and you must download iTunes version 7.3.0.5 )
http://www.dvdtoiphone.org/ (scroll down til you see "Activate your iPhone in seconds") I did it, and it works great. I live in Norway, and am using the full iphone, except the phone part. (ok, I know it is a bit pricey for an ipod/wifi/camera/movie gadget, but it is worth it) Have fun Danny :p Last edited by osldwm; 07-26-2007 at 06:04 PM. |

This one also works great, but demands a little more work for you. Have tested this one too, and it works. (again, remember to have iTunes 7.3.0.5 on your machine... you can upgrade the iTunes after you have successfully activated the iPhone)
Simple steps to activate your iPhone without an AT&T SIM (for Windows users only) 01. Download a hex editor. xvi32 is good, and all later references will be made to it. 02. Go to http://nanocr.eu/2007/07/03/iphone-without-att/ (Jon's server is under heavy traffic at the moment. If you can't get in, wait a sec and try again) 03. Download the Phone Activation Server v1.0 04. Download and install iTunes 7.3 05. After installing iTunes, start it up, click on Help > About iTunes. Your version should be 7.3.0.54 06. Backup iTunes.exe from your iTunes installation folder (copy and paste it somewhere safe - in case you f**ked it up, you can still restore it) 07. Run XVI32 (or whatever hex editor you're using). 08. Select File > Open, and select iTunes.exe from your iTunes installation folder. 09. Select Address > Goto... from the menu. 10. Enter 2048912 (decimal) 11. Change the highlighted value (should be 81) to 33. Do this simply by typing on the keyboard. It'll overwrite. 12. Start from step 09. This time, goto 2048913, and replace EC with C0 13. Goto 2048914, replace 14 with C3. 14. Goto 257074, replace A8 with 28. 15. Goto 257013, replace 8B with 33. 16. Goto 257014, replace 4C with C9. 17. Goto 257015, replace 24 with B1. 18. Save and exit your hex editor. 19. Go to the directory c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ 20. Open the file "hosts" using notepad. Add the line "127.0.0.1 albert.apple.com" (without the quotes) and save. 21. Install MS .NET Framework 2.0 if you haven't. 22. Reboot. 23. Start up iTunes 24. Start up PhoneActSrv.exe (it's the Phone Activation Server v1.0 you downloaded from nanocr.eu) 25. Dock and sync your iPhone. Follow on screen instructions to activate. |

Thanks for your answers.
Maybe I didnt express my self correctly. Lets forget about unlocking it. My question is, do you think that an iPhone bought in the US will work with the company that Apple pick up to launch the iPhone in Mexico? Same question for those in Europe, do you think that the iPhone that you have right now will work with the service provider that carries the iPhone legally in your country? Thanks again folks! |

No, because the iPhone you buy in the US will be locked to AT&T. An iPhone released in Mexico will be locked to whatever provider they decide to go with down there.

_Yes, via my wifi it does. And the other thing I want to know, is why is YouTube so important to have on a device like this? Running YouTube via Edge is to slow. And YouTube isn't a "must have" thing is it?
