One button function to write a new SMS?

Is there any way to set up an icon on the springboard that goes straight to writing a new SMS?
It's quite a few button presses before one gets there....

What then? SMS gets rejected as a search term for being too short!
It's not as if I havent tried!
Ever tried searching for "Pay as you go"? MIght as well get buried.

Right, well it's not about laziness but about convenience. It's NOT very convenient at the moment.
