1. plug podgizmo into my iphone, when I get one 2. solder to molex connector?? which ports on the podgizmo, would it be easier to use the other ipod connectors on that site? 3. use the embed ttl to rs-232 converter 4. use the iogear converter cable. Where does the 6.8k-ish resistor go into this. Will this work with a PC? Last edited by theButcher; 07-07-2007 at 06:30 PM. |

This command is Unix, and the iPhone Interface is Windows. How do I make this work? Should I compile the source code in Xcode and run from a MAc? but Mac doesn't have those DLL files.
setenv debug-uarts 1 saveenv reboot |

According to the admin of that site you posted (who sells the cable)
"get me a iphone and ill let ya know well my cable has a 470k resistor, so far starters you would need to open my connector and change the resistor (not that hard) to 6.8k, so they claim... so yes... acording to apple, the dock connector is the same, someone needs to leak a iphone dock connector document till that happens, we can only be 99% sure" |

ok i am going to come out an ask...
has anyone on this site actually gotten the serial interface working at all?... for that matter has anyone even managed to verify that the iphone enters the serial/bootloader mode at all? the reason that i ask is that i have been attempting to perform independent verification of the various results that the iphone dev team has claimed and i am having trouble duplicating many of them... ive checked and double checked my work and detailed all of the steps and it seems that there is crucial information either missing or incorrectly posted. needless to say i am a bit worried because alot of people are going to start buying cables and such and they may not work at all.. so here is what i have done so far: 1. built the level converter: used a max233cpp, 78L05 regulator and filtering. attached 6.8K resistor from serial enable to gnd (pin 21 to 1) and tied serial gnd to gnd (pin 11 to pin 1). serialtx (12) to T2IN and serialrx (13) to R2OUT. as well as the various power and support connections for the max233 (note max 232 works as well but requires the support caps). ill post a full schematic for anyone else interested in a bit. 2. tested the converter: performed loopback both at rs232 levels and at TTL levels at the connector pins both of which worked. 3. attached a logic analyzer to the ipod serial connections to check for activity: noted that serial is coming through from the test terminal program to the iphone but no activity detected from the iphone. the iphone is not responding at all. (interesting note: the iphone loops back serial when its powered off). 4. the only visible evidence that the iphone detects the serial interface is the "this device is not designed to work with the iphone" message 5. start up iphone... switch into recovery mode via the top/front button hold method. start up iphone interface. verified in recovery mode. enter "cmd setenv debug-uarts 1" then "cmd saveenv" then "cmd reboot". the iphone reboots. switch out usb for serial interface. the iphone simply reboots to normal mode and the start screen (slide to unlock). 6. performed the same procedure but with the listed "serial" command and get the same result. (does the phone give visible indication of serial mode or not?) 7. soldered a jumper with 6.8k resistor to the iphone base term 21,1. thought maybe the phone needs to see 6.8K immediately on reboot but no change. 8. attempted connection using the following bitrate 9600, 19200,38400,57600,15200 (all 8N1) thats most of what i have... ill post a bunch of parts lists and diagrams for anyone who wants to build their own as well as some of the test info but it would be great if someone from the dev team could chime in for a minute and clarify a few of these points so that we can get a fully documented procedure going. ive looked over the entire dev wiki site and the info is sparse at best. thanks. |
