Possible solution to the "red dot" problem on Voice Mail button

It was suggested from a guy at a cell phone store that I could just press the "Reset All Settings" button in the Settings-General tab. He said this may get rid of the constant red dot over my VM button (stays there even when I clear my VM box). Just wondering if this should work and if my VM notifications will work properly. Also, what exactly will be gone on my phone once I reset all settings?
