Can anyone think of any potential repercussions for standing outside of the Apple store and passing out copies of this article?

1.1.1 did not try to relock your phone it was just a simple baseband update there will be many more. An IPSF unlock wasn't effected at all by the update, the worst thing they did was to make activation harder and forced you to reactivate after the update this is reason to get upset but not because of a normal baseband update, they can't help that anysim and others worked by using a patched baseband.

My primary motivation is not to get back at Apple but instead to correct the misinformation that they appear to be deliberately spreading about their product as seen in the linked article:

"But I had read that it's possible to unlock the phone and use it—"

"You heard wrong," he said, his voice rising. "That's impossible." The tone was harsh; a few people looked over.


It is possible that after reading the article, a few people who otherwise would not have purchased an iPhone will decide to do so.

I was also under the impression that 1.1.1 was specifically designed to brick iphones with modified basebands. Are you saying that this was a mere coincidence?

it was a issue that had to do with the unlock method not apples fault, since then a new version of anysim (1.1) has been released this will not brick when you update to 1.1.1 neither will ipsf.

The makers, dev team most likelly had an idea it would brick when they brought it out but at the time it was the best solution they had. now we have the revised version it will not brick. Really apple made no attempt to brick or relock phones it was just the reality of a normal update for them really the unlock method is what bricked the phones.

If they don't make money then they don't support it as a company they are being pretty greedy

You're right about the unlock bricking the iphone and not the update. I guess that this was the risk that we all took on when we decided to use modified software.

I just don't think that it is fair to the general population who likely have never heard of this or other similar forums to let them be lied to about such an expensive product because Apple is, as you say, being greedy.

If I were about to spend $400 + tax on anything, I would want access to its full functionality.

Does anyone have any information about whether or not Apple makes money per new ATT iphone activation? I think that would be a useful bit of information, but I seriously doubt that it has been made public.

What does everyone else think?

Should the public know that the iPhone can legally be unlocked and that Apple has been trying (successfully) to conceal this fact from its customers or should we remain silent?
